So I've been thinking lately how I do enjoy listening to music which is sung in languages other than English. Some English speaking people don't like it as they enjoy being able to understand what's being said. Sometimes I'll go and specifically look up what a song is about and a translation, other times such as German songs I'll be able to pick up a bit of it. But most of all I prefer just listening to the voice purely as an instrument in itself and appreciating it without trying to understand it. So as we got quite a few people who come from countries where I'd guess English isn't a first language I thought maybe we could share some music that we like in other languages?

Going first, this is what promted me to make this thread ... I just picked up Mike Patton's new album Mondo Cane, it's an album of 50's/60's Italian pop songs done with an orchestra. I love Patton's range as he goes from crazy rock and metal and rap singer of bands like Faith No More, Fantomas, Mr Bungle, Lovage etc ... to something like this:

Well, I am lucky to be able to listening to music in English, Russian and German, the three languages I easily speak. But I really do not enjoy listening to songs which I do not understand, so I could hardly name any songs in other languages...

errr, fine.

One of my fave Russian bands, The Bricks. In 1996 they were the first in my country to start hitting hardcore and nu metal.
This one is from their latest works, one of the serious songs in fact. Most of their tracks are very funny in terms of language

They either play stoner, hardcore, or pure old school hiphop.

And here are a couple of songs, first one from the same band, The Bricks (Kirpichi). it is called INOSTR and the vocalist mixes Russian, English, German and Spanish to rhyme the words. fucking awesome in my opinion.

And second one is my fave song by my fave Russian band, Pilot, that is called Like A Crow.

BTW, this band's story is quite similar to Live... They used to smash the radio with pretty heavy grunge stuff, then more industrial stuff, when suddenly they started writing more and more pop songs, while the fans started saying that the lead vocalist is having another fuck-up.. then the band fell apart, we received a couple of bullshit solo works and now the band is back with new musicians and the same vocalist, but the texts deal more and more with god and kids. Guess what. lol.gif

But the music is back at its best in fact. That leaves me pretty satisfied.

I listen to probably a lot of different languages in music. French, German, Italian, Spanish, are amongst the languages (besides english). But I am also known for listening to songs in Serbian, Polish, Russian. As long as I dig the music or the rhythm, I dont care what language the song is in really.
