A dedication to York, Pennsylvania

The Gracious Few have been woodshedding at Patrick’s studio in York, PA. As many of you know Patrick, Chad and I grew up in the small blue-collar town in south-central Pennsylvania. We are surrounded by more than twenty years of our musical history. There are guitars, amplifiers, stage-sets, risers, strings, drum sets, congas, shakers, microphones, road cases and stage curtains by the truckload. This is where is all began for us as musicians and it feels incredibly enriching to return to write songs and interact with a host of characters who helped us succeed. I’m pretty sure that some home cooking is just what we needed.

The new leg of our journey hasn’t been easy but the support network of family and friends in this small town is incredible. Nothing can humble a man faster than facing down his past and trust me we have plenty of it here. There has been humility abound in the past year. I hope this earthbound feeling is reflected in our songs. We aren’t trying to reinvent or create anything new. We simply want to document the struggles and victories of everyday life while pushing our own musical boundaries. The people of this community are hard working folk, honest and true, if not slightly backwards at time. That would be a fair description of our music and myself. Seems that we are a perfect fit.

I’ve found that there is no greater expression of oneself that the intimate sentiment of love between people. It doesn’t have to be made in some grand fashion and the folks of York can let you know in a subtle glance that they want the best for you. I want the best for them too. Sean and Kevin have been willing to join us for this ride and I am thankful that our community has embraced them too.

If The Gracious Few are lucky enough to write songs that find an audience, I hope that we remember to trek back to little old York for a taste of home cooking and humble pie and maybe a free concert if you’ll have us.

Once again, a thought, that TGF is a one-album band.

I adore CT.

That.

I once again get an idea that TGF will only have 1 album released and then move on back to Candlebox and... smth else for CT, PD and CG

Could be. Although, maybe only one album to begin with, and then some more years down the line they'll do it again?

Ok, your pros for it to become a hit. After a good, full reply, I will easily give my cons.

Damn, CT is just a great person all around isn't he? I love CAG and Patrick to death too. Reading his blog makes we want to take a few days off of work, for a trek to York. To MAYBE experience some of the things he writes about for myself.

Side note - I was listening to Lakini's Juice yesterday, and when the song got to the instrumental bit, it was like magic....gave me goosebumps. Guess it's true that you don't fully appreciate what you have until it's gone.

Yeah, yeah, I think a road trip (by plane) to York is a good idea...maybe what the doctor ordered.

Thanks for sharing the blog.
