Who else is pumped to see this? Its been a long time coming and based on what ive seen so far i think its gonna be a sure winner.

Put aside the fact that its compeltely revolutionary on a technical level, and the director is the same guy who created some of the richest and most groundbreaking sci-fi / action blockbusters of the 80's and 90's, the fact that this is a completely ORIGINAL idea is something to admire. It isnt based on a book, or a game, or a remake or anything that already has a cult following thereby ensuring it will have some wider appeal, its a brand new idea about a brand new world. I think it takes guts to do that these days.

plus the alien chicks look smokin

I'm in two minds about it. I think it'll be an awesome film, but the trailers are really blowing their own holes a bit too much. I dunno.

for me the reasons this will be a MUST SEE film! But the first reviews all state that the 2D-trailers everyone has seen so far are in fact nothing when you compare it to the 3D versions you can see in the theaters soon.
I think Cameron has been groundbreaking several times (first Terminator 2, than again with Titanic) and will now change film history once again!

To me it simply looks cheesy. I'm one of the few who have no interest in seeing it.

what about it looks cheesy? Is it the special effects, the story, the hype surrounding it? Im just curious because when i saw the trailer for it i literally got goosebumps and that has happened to me maybe twice in my movie-going life. To me its more than a movie, its an event. Maybe its because i was raised within camerons sci-fi zeitgeist so there is some nostalgia there, but either way ive already organised 3 viewings with different groups of friends!!!

I don't think it looks cheesy. Pretentious, perhaps a little. But not cheesy.

I saw it tonight .. I must say I was impressed, but then again I went in with not really any expectations because I havent been following the hype that much.

**Spoilers if you continue reading.**

I thought it was a bit predictable in some ways ... the whole sam worthington guy being disliked by the elder warrior dude of the tribe yet him finally finding respect for him at the end was seen a mile away. Likewise as soon as they tried to save sigourney weaver from dying by putting her into a new body, you could see thats how sam worthington's character was going to end the movie. Plot wise they could have made it a lot more interesting .. maybe by not so clearly painting one side as good and one side as evil .. maybe creating a story where you could easily see the perspective of either side ... it hammered the whole "white man take black people land" metaphore thing a bit too hard. I'd love to see michelle rodriguez play a role for once where she isn't the tough ass kicking chick .. mostly because I find her pretty hot, but im affraid to think that she's hot lest she busts through my bedroom window when im sleeping and kill me in my sleep.

It looked amazing visually ... can't deny that .. the world they created made me want it to be real so bad. And part of making it so beautiful did help enhance the general dude as such a good bad guy for wanting to destroy it without care because it's a place you'd want to fight to save.

Just saw it tonight in 3D. I knew nothing about it going into the theatre. Absolutely blew my mind. Hands down, Avatar is THE best movie I have ever seen! This opinion is shared with my girlfriend and her brother who just saw it with me. Outrageously fucking good!

Was this your first movie?

To answer Wam, I'm just not into the storyline, the special effects don't impress me, and the movie just gives me that cheesy feel when I see the comercials. I'm just going to take a pass on it.

I was about to ask him that, thanks for stealing my line Hoody sad.gif

The more I think about it the more I agree ... visually it was pretty impressive, but I still don't quite see how it was ground breaking. then again i saw it in 2d, maybe 3d is a whole different story .. or not?
The story though, yeah there was nothing really original about it.

Still, I can't deny that it had something ... I didn't hate it, I didn't even dislike it and I can't quite place why I don't dislike it if I can't find amazing things to say about it.
