Very cool! This should be a very interesting evening. Typically each artists plays a few songs and then does a Q&A with the hosts. Sometimes both artists play a song together to close the show out.

Looking forward to it, thanks Nick for the info.

The show is now listed on the venue's website, but they have horribly misspelled Ed(die)'s last name, "Kowalezyk".

Oh, and the on sale time is 10am Mountain, not noon as it says above.

A semi interesting article about Ed and his upcoming performance. I've bolded some relevant Ed quotes.

Eddie Kowalczyk: Live and well at Boulder's 'etown' (AUDIO, VIDEO)
Frontman takes a break from his band
By Wendy Kale
Wednesday, July 22, 2009

BOULDER, Colo. — Eddie Kowalczyk's looking forward to showing off his acoustic side at Thursday night's "etown" taping at the Boulder Theater.

Kowalczyk is the frontman and exuberant singer for the band Live. The group set the tone for alternative-rock bands in the '90s, and its singles "Lightning Crashes" and "Selling the Drama" still set the bar at rock radio.

The band's had a solid run, but Live decided to take a two-year hiatus from its hectic touring schedule.

"Live is officially on a break," Kowalczyk said in an interview. "It's not a breakup of the band, but we've been the same four guys doing this since 1990.

"We just split off for now, so we can explore our own projects."

The band's hiatus inspired Kowalczyk to take a look at his musical identity, and the performer's in the process of planning a solo CD.

"I was definitely ready to make a solo record," Kowalczyk said. "My new music is different, yet it's reminiscent of Live. This record has also freed me up to use different musicians -- and there will be elements on this record that will surprise people.

"I'm focusing on the acoustic guitar for this record, but I won't go into the studio until I feel the songs can stand up and be compelling."

In the meantime, Kowalczyk's been enjoying his visits to Boulder.

The performer has worked on artistic projects with Boulder's "punk monk" Stuart Davis and spiritual author Ken Wilber. The trio has worked together to explore the synthesis of art and integral transformative practice.

"I just love the Boulder community," Kowalczyk said. "There's all kinds of progressive and spiritual ideas floating around there. I'm into spirituality-- and Boulder has inspired me."

Kowalczyk said he's ready to come back to Boulder and show off his solo work.

The Live frontman will be sharing the "etown" stage with bluegrass star Del McCoury.

"I'm very interested in playing 'etown,'" Kowalczyk said. "I want to show people a different side of me. I think they'll be pleasantly surprised to see me playing acoustic.

"I'm going to do some different arrangements of my songs at 'etown'. This will be a brand new thing for people to see -- and it will be fun."

Kowalczyk is gearing up his tour schedule to promote his solo shows. After the Colorado date, the musician will head off to Australia for a string of concerts.

"I also have some collaborations in the works," Kowalczyk said. "I met Sinead O'Connor last year on the 'Night of Proms' tour. We're now talking about working on a song together.

"I'm also looking forward to playing more acoustic shows. It's so nice to get back to playing on the fan level. It's nice to strip away all the layers and get back to the nitty gritty."

That's a decent interview. I'm optimistic for Ed's solo record!

Thanks for the article Dan. I am really looking forward to the show tonight, esp. since Ed is "going to do some different arrangements of my songs at 'etown'."

Stuart Davis is playing in Boulder on Saturday (http://www.stuartdavis.com/events), I wonder if Ed will show up?

Fun show last night at etown, the internationally syndicated radio show. We barely made it in time due to traffic in Denver, we arrived 10 minutes before showtime, but were still able to get seats in row 5 just off center.

The Del McCoury Band had first bill, they played a few songs. I hadn't heard of them before last night, but they are legends in the Bluegrass community, we will probably pick up a few of their CDs to add to the collection. Del McCoury has been in the biz forever, he just released a 50 year, yes 50 years retrospective of his career.

Ed came out and played I Alone and Lightening Crashes solo acoustic, then sat down with Nick Forester (the host of etown) for an interview, Nick admitted that he was not familiar with Ed or Live, but Nick had done his research and did a good interview. They talked about the "hiatus" for Live, Ed was very non committal about any specifics about Live's future, but made a point to say that the band has not "officially" broken up. Ed mentioned that he is recording his solo album this Fall for a Spring release. After the interview Ed and the house band, the etones, played Turn My Head and The Distance. Typically, to close out an episode/recording of etown the 2 acts perform a song together, as Nick, the host said, "It's not a collision of two worlds, it's a seamless marriage." Typically they play a song from the "bigger" act, however last night was a bit different, during sound check Ed and The Del McCoury Band learned Bob Dylan's Maggie's Farm, neither act had performed the song before. Ed voice is very well suited for this song. It was the highlight of the evening, the Bluegrass fans dug it, the Live/Ed fans dug it. I fully expect Maggie's Farm to be added to Ed's solo setlist. Here is a sample, more to come later.

They were selling the Hoboken boot on USB drive, Ed's t-shirt and poster flats (for $10!) in the lobby. Ed came out to the lobby to sign autographs afterwards. I asked him if he plans on coming back to Colorado to play a full set (this is the second radio show he has done in Colorado this year), he said he plans a full US tour to support the solo album. I also asked him if he was going to play with his friend Stuart Davis at his show on Saturday, but he said he has to get home, but wished he could have stayed the weekend for the show. He mentioned to someone else that he will start selling a coffee soon and that his Chicago show will be available on his site soon.

The etown performance ran about 2 hours in length, it will be edited down to about an hour and played on radio stations in about 6 weeks, check out etown.org for stations in your area that have the show. etown is also available as a podcast.

All in all a fun night, Maggie's Farm was by far the highlight.

Awesome review. 2010 sounds like it will be a great time for Eddie fans.

I'm downloading a (supposedly) high quality 81 megabyte version of the eTown show right now...

I will upload it once it's complete.

Do you guys prefer Rapidshare or Mediafire? Or does it not matter?

Mediafire is better I think. Not that it matters much.

Can hardly wait, thanks Dan!
