Well the popularity of this band is quite similar to that of Live. Namely, two shops have a couple of CDs and hardly a shop assistant knows what you are talking about.

Anyway, I bet this band deserves a thread.

Themusic of theirs has a huge impact on me lately. As of yet, I still only have their latest work and I am pretty scared to gt the rest. It can either grow on me completely and I will give up all the rest or I can get disappointed, which I do not want.

The album I possess (and spin as crazy lately) is quite a standeard CD. Standard in a strange way. On the one hand, the instruments are not played with mad professionalism, on the other hand, the melodies are catchy as fuck and for sure the singalong choruses make up for what is not that huge in their music.

They can easily have a college-rock song like Hollywood with those throw-up wordies like BABE, SUN, CALIFORNIA etc, but on the other hand there is one song that got at me from the very first listen.

Adored.

Feels like Ed with all his goofiness sat down and poured all that he ever felt into one 3-minute tune. Which for me has rapidly become one of the best ever.

I wonder why Luke has not created a thread on them here yet.

And I wanna know what you people think about the band.

Cheers

Only own a couple by the band...

Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid ~Was decent, forgettable, I can't think of more than 3 songs from this album right now.

Collective Soul ~ The TC of the band. Not one bad song on the whole thing. Collection of goods... she gathers rain... it's all so great. I'm going to turn it on RIGHT NOW. So long Uriah Heep!

7even Year Itch ~ Gotta get the Greatest hits like a little whore. I liked Energy and Heavy from this but for some reason I stopped listening. Whatever.

I treat these guys like I treat Soul asylum. One good album (Self Titled for CS) with maybe a couple other singles surrounded by crap. They are unable to pull off multiple wins like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, or Live.

You should not compare LZ to anyone, pal, I think.

Tried to go for accessibility so everyone could agree and understand. I think Pink floyd has no bad albums but chances are that someone will pop up and disagree with me. Well... I take that back. Piper at the gates of dawn sucked.

Moving on, Who else here has an opinion on Collective Soul?

I had completely forgotten all about them though until a year ago...I went through a Beavis and Butthead phase...

Listening to them now though they are pretty much a classic 90s band. I only really know them by their singles (December, Shine, The World I know) from like '94 and '95. Based off of those I could easily put them in my top 20 maybe even top 10 favorite bands because they always seemed to have a really strong hook. Also I am, and always was, impressed by their songwriting. Not that their lyrics are spectacular in anyway, but they really got the "Less is More" attitude down.

...now if you will excuse me I'm going to go put on some Hammer Pants and a flannel shirt and drink beer all day...I wonder if Marky Mark will ever make music again? Better kill him just to be sure.

Collective Soul is my #3 band right behind LIVE and Black Lab. I was always a casual fan and knew and liked their hits. Then back in 2005, they played a show at the Abercrombie home office in New Albany, OH. I didn't have anything going on and I figured it would be worth it to check out a live show, so I went. Fell in love with the band because they put on an excellent show.

Before that, like I said, I only knew their singles, though I did have a copy of Youth that I picked up on a whim back when it came out and I did enjoy it. I now own everything they've released.

Definitely check out their older material. As Badman said, their self-titled album is like their Throwing Copper and there really isn't a bad song on it. My personal favorite, though, is Dosage. There's maybe a subpar song or two on the album, but as a whole it's pretty amazing.

You said you enjoy Afterwords, though, and I think that it's their best album since Dosage.

So yeah, pick up some of their other CD's (or download them, I know they're fairly easy to find). If you can't see them live in concert, definitely pick up their DVD. It's very well produced and every song sounds great with the symphony backing them.

Collective Soul are back in the studio. Recording began earlier this
month on their 8th studio album which will be released on Roadrunner
Records this summer.

The guys have sent us an exclusive video just for The Collective Souls to
watch. Head to The Collective Souls website (www.thecollectivesouls.com)
to view it for yourself!

Rock!
-The Collective Souls

New albums this year by all four of my favorites! (LIVE, Black Lab, Better Than Ezra, Collective Soul)

Hell yeah! Also, it looks like CS got a record deal, as it's going to be on Roadrunner instead of their own label like the last few releases.
