With info now released about "Live At The Paradiso" I'm seeing this connection. Radiant Sea and Live At The Paradiso have a collection of live songs (RS has random concert recordings and LATP has parts of a concert) and two previously unreleased and unheard songs each.

Essentially they are the same type of album (with the exception of the DVD).

First of all, is this now the type of release that we can expect from Live - live material with a pair of new songs?

Secondly, why is Live doing this? They are essentially releasing the same type of album to their fanbase twice in a row. Why release them both back to back?

I know that fanclub members only had to pay shipping for RS, but do you feel that Live is doing this for their fans or they are attempting a money grab at their fanbase with the release of 4 new songs on 2 seperate albums.

I'm actually happy about both releases but I want to ask an honest question based on the connection I see between the albums.

You know, I bet that the majority out of fanclub only bought RS and BI online without getting the CD itself. And it is purely logical. So it was hardly for making money.

This new one is not for that either. LIVE without an official LIVE dvd is ridiculous.

Or they simply do not have the inspiration for a full album.

However, I really fucking want an album with 12 brand new songs indeed.

to be honest: I don't see a link between the two releases at all!
- Radiant Sea was very obvious for the fans, and Ed stated that several times ('the old cool fanclub feeling').
- O'right, the Paradiso thing will ALSO contain a cd, but they would never released it if it wasn't for the dvd. The DVD is a project 15 years in the making, as Chad called it. The cd is an extra, to make the package complete. While theyre adding a live CD of Paradiso with the DVD (which keeps the main thing), they were able to but some other, not live recorded stuff on it. So than it was perfactly possible to put a single on it to promote it. I really think they went into the studio to record A SINGLE (or two maybe), and that's the first time ever, because they wanted some promotional music for the DVD. That makes it a lot different from the fanclub release Radiant Sea, which contained b-sides as new songs that were never singles.
And to answer the question about the future: no I don't see them releasing live recordings any time soon again.

Canada watches hockey (Go Wings!).

It bitches about America but one day, if anything ever happens to them, we'll have to save their asses because they are the pussies in the neighborhood. Hell, Mexico could kick their ass!

omg.gif

For someone who did not belong to the official fan club both CD's are new to me and are the exact same thing. When you get the actual CD's show both of them to any friend who does not follow Live and just ask them. You are blinded by your fandom. They are both are live songs and two new songs. In fact they:

1. Both have a collection of live songs.

2. Both albums share many of the same songs.

3. One has random songs from various shows (a few of which were from the same show) and the other has some of the songs performed at one show.

4. Neither is a full concert.

5. They both have two unheard songs.

The only real difference to me is that the new CD has a few more songs. Saying the LATPD is simply going to be better is bullshit unless the live recordings are that much better or if both new songs blow RS and BI out of the water.

For either I'll have to wait and see. I hope it's great and I'm sure that I'll love it, but they just released the same thing twice in a row and threw in a CD. Wake Up!

Another difference is that Radiant Sea was a 'in the margin' release (on their own label, only available from the FOL site so it reached the hardcore fans only) and Live At The Paradiso will be in shops sort-of-worldwide and is supported by a radio single and (possibly) a tour.

exactly! So Hoodstock, didn't you really get what I explained in my post? What you did was just comparing the back cover of both cd's and say: 'ohw well they've both live recordings on it, ohw and both new songs. Well that must be the same thing huh.gif '

YOU better wake up. Asking non-Live fans about this is just really stupid, because they don't see a difference. No ofcourse they don't! They don't know the band, so they don't know their songs or the fact they've never released a proper DVD before!! They don't (because as non Live fans they can't!) relealise the different way of release: independent on your own label for your fans without letting the outside world know much about it (RS) vs a worldwide release that - as I said before - was a plan for many many years now (LATP). Both are not a full concert, but Paradiso was recorded intentially to make it one CD and DVD that could be released as one show, not some different bootlegs as RS was.

Well I can go on for hours like this, but if you don't understand the thing said in this post so far, I think it's pretty much useless.

i'm with Hoodstock on this.

i mean, we'll keep buying 'em - no matter what. but i think that the observation is spot on. apart from RS, BI and now Forever and the other new single, it's not gonna be much new apart from the fact that it's on DVD and probably better quality recordings. don't get me wrong, i hear the above points 'defending', if you will, but at the same time, i think we have to come to terms with the fact that albums like MJ, TC, SS and TDTH are in the past now. Live in the 90's and LIVE's more recent work are really different - whether it's ed's voice or the 'more polished' sound of the band, it's just not the all rocking, crazy-ass shit that the material from the 90's has. and i know folks who've bought just 'Awake' and then SFBM and were thrilled with it. Thrilled with The River, and they will milk themselves over the new singles too, probably.

I think BOP was maybe as close to the older sounding LIVE as we're gonna get. say what you like about that album, but there are songs on there that are better than anything on SFBM. again, it's opinionated. even the touring. i mean, i saw LIVE in 2000 here in SA and they were rocking and outta control and the show was well thought out and had a really long, really dynamic setlist and the energy was amazing. i saw them again in 2003 on the BOP tour, and it wasnt the same, but it was really good. it was rocking and the intensity was there. they were on fire. i mean, songs like Like I Do, Lighthouse and Life Marches On werent the greatest material, but it rocked at shows. In 2006, LIVE toured here again, and we had fun and everything, but the performance, when put into perspective and compared with their passed shows, was a bit...im looking for the right word here, but it just seemed 'flat'. even the setlist to a degree. just go back and have a look at the well circulated Vorst National concert in belgium in 2003. that show kicked ass. the setlist was ok, but just look at the performance. even the bootlegged versions of the australian performances in 2004 of Running to a Stand Still. wow! maybe im just being a little ungreatful. they're a great band and theyve given us great tunes and we'll keep buying their albums and bootlegging their material and probably keep looking for better versions of Lift Me Up and Photograph etc haha...

maybe they shout come out with a real Out Takes album. i mean, im sure that'd make us all wet ourselves. Put everything that was never released on their. studio stuff, i mean. that'd be great.

...but, im dreaming again.
