Found this article about Live from the Edmonton Journal. Thought it was interesting and was wondering about the reaction to it here:

Beautiful Invisible

After years of Top 10 hits, Live is now poised to be one of those bands destined to live out the rest of their years on the fringes of the mainstream.

Which is exactly where it seems Ed Kowalczyk and co. want to be — if the title of one of their new songs, Beautiful Invisible, is any indication.

It's one of the tracks on Live's latest disc, Radiant Sea: A Collection of Bootleg Rarities and Two New Songs. While the rockers released a digital version of the album on their own label, Action Front Records, their efforts were all but eclipsed by those issued by Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails

Appropriately enough, Live is scheduled to perform on the fringes of Edmonton — April 25 at the River Cree Resort and Casino.

Tickets are on sale Wednesday, March 19.

Quite an idiotic article. I bet if it has not been for the show ad, it could have well remained unwritten. Moreover, funny enough that the author puts LIVE in one row with NiN and Radiohead. I know they go together in this niche with online releases, but....yanno... I would not compare the level of mass appeal of these bands. And above....How on earth does he know what the guys feel like?

Also Radiant Sea wasn't a studio album. It was basically two V outtakes and old holiday gift songs. The band doesn't publicly acknowledge the album or even play the two "new" songs in concert. Dopey article overall.

Well at least they're mentioning live, I thought you guys would at least be happy about that? most newspapers/magazines etc wouldn't be touching live at all because they're not news makers.

Radiohead was bigger than Live? I had no clue who they were till this year and I bought one of thieir cds (OK computer) and I got ripped... 2 good songs. NIN does hammer Live though... dang sales.

Still, bad publicity is still publicity.

Radiohead's and NIN's fanbase dwarfs Live's by about 1000 times. There are probably 100 regular posters on SOY and Fans Of Live combined. Radiohead and NIN's fans are rabid, I've never seen anything like it before. NIN released a Blu-Ray/Vinyl/CD/book box set at $300 a piece and 2500 copies were sold in 2 days.

In terms of online distribution, Live isn't even in the ballpark when compared to NIN.

I'm by no means a big fan (musically) of either of these bands, but Trent Reznor has embraced the online culture and gives his fans exactly what they want and then some.

Radiohead was and still is wayyyyy bigger than LIVE ever were. Ever listen to The Bends or Kid A? I think Radiohead has sold more than NIN and Live combined and deservedly so. They can still sell out large venues of 20,000 or more. They came here and sold over 40,000 tickets in less than 72 hours. Radiohead fucking rules. rockin.gif
