Live will be playing at the DTE "aka Pine Knob" on Sunday July 8th and co-headlining with Collective Soul. I've heard no news on who will open.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters are the opening act. Has anyone ever been to this venue, what did you think? What other things are there to do in the area? If it city or suburban?

Thanks

Funny! Well, not really ... I had tickets to see LIVE in 95 at Pine Knob ... never went (must have been on my deathbed to miss a show!)! Pine Knob is in the Detroit area. There's obviously tons to do in Detroit! Pine Knob is an outside amphitheater too ...

DTE, which was Pine Knob, is about one hour north of Detroit. It is by the Palace of Auburn Hills, which is where the Pistons play. Pine Knob is the premire outdoor music venue in the state. It's an awesome place for a concert. I've been there multiple times for tons of shows. It is a suburban area, so you know what you can expect in terms of entertainment.

My question about who is opening was not referring to the opening act, but who is opening between Live and Collective Soul. I truely hope Live closes out the show. As Ed has said in the past, "It just don't feel right to be rocking with the sun up."

My money is on Live to close the show.

Thanks for sharing the opening act info, Nick thumbsup.gif
Never heard of em' but I've been impressed by something new to me there before. I'd never heard of The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band before seeing them opening for Van Halen out at Pine Knob. A guitar-focal opening act being apropos to the mood naturally suited an audience there to behold Eddie's brilliance.

As for occupying your Live-lovin' selves while you're visiting, check out Great Lakes Crossing and do spend generously on behalf of our sad-ass Michigan economy.

The venue is impressive and is situated within a rather upscale area and is as mentioned well outside 'Detroit', which btw needn't be as dreaded as some appear to believe. Should you ever have the opportunity to be here, our Detroit venues from arenas to theatres and clubs are all worthwhile and supported by much historical and cultural pride.

Real excited about the show coming up in less than a month. I hope the place is packed and the band is ready to play. I'll be down in row "H".

Just wanted to add what the venue states for the concert. It has good info on each of the bands:

LIVE AND COLLECTIVE SOUL WITH SPECIAL GUEST BIG HEAD TODD & THE MONSTERS TO PERFORM AT DTE ENERGY MUSIC THEATRE JULY 8

Alternative rock bands Live and Collective Soul with special guest Big Head Todd & The Monsters will perform at DTE Energy Music Theater on Sunday, July 8 at 7 p.m.

Tickets at $37.50 pavilion and $15 lawn are on sale now at Palacenet.com, The Palace and DTE Energy Music Theatre Box Offices and all Ticketmaster locations.

Tickets may also be charged to American Express, Discover, Visa and MasterCard by calling 248/645-6666.

Live first formed in the early 1980s in their hometown of York, Pennsylvania, when future members Chad Taylor (guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums) began playing together under the name First Aid while attending middle school. After losing an area talent contest, they decided to enlist singer Ed Kowalczyk, and as a foursome the group played under a series of names before drawing their current name out of a hat.

In 1992, the band released their debut album Mental Jewelry, which peaked at number seven on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Their follow-up album Throwing Copper (1994) reached number one on Billboard’s 200 Top-Selling Albums chart based on the strength of the hit singles, “I Alone” and “Lightning Crashes.” In 1997, they released Secret Samadhi, which also peaked at number one on Billboard’s 200 Top-Selling Albums chart.

The band has also released several other albums including The Distance to Here (1999), V (2001), Birds of Prey (2001) and Awake: The Best of Live (2004).

Their latest release Songs from the Black Mountain (2006) reached number three on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums chart.

Collective Soul is an alternative rock/post-grunge band from Stockbridge, Georgia. The band initially got its start known as Marching Two Step in the late 1980s and went through several lineup changes before they broke through as Collective Soul. Originally released in 1993, Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid proved popular with the hit “Shine,” which became a modern rock and MTV staple. The band found themselves with a platinum debut, playing everywhere from arenas with Aerosmith to Woodstock in 1994. They released their sophomore effort the following year, Collective Soul, which featured the hits “World I Know” and “December,” once again going multi-platinum. Other albums include Disciplined Breakdown (1997), Dosage (1999), Blender (2000) and 7even Year Itch: Collective Soul’s Greatest Hits 1994 (2001). Their most recent album, an eight song EP (From the Ground Up) was released in 2005.

Currently, the band consists of Ed Roland (vocals, keyboard, guitar), Dean Roland (guitar), Will Turpin (bass guitar, vocals), Joel Kosche (guitar) and Ryan Hoyle (drums, percussion).

Big Head Todd & The Monsters originated in 1986 in Colorado. Their debut album was Another Mayberry (1989) followed by Midnight Radio, which was released the following year. Their first live album, Big Head Todd and The Monsters Live (1993) was recorded at the H.O.R.D.E. Festival.

Other albums include Sister Sweetly (1993), Strategem (1994), Beautiful World (1997), Live Monsters (1998), Riviera (2002), Crimes of Passion (2004), Live at the Fillmore (2004) and From the Archives (2007).

Current band members include Todd Park Mohr (guitar/vocals), Brian Nevin (drums/vocals) and Rob Squires (bass/vocals).

Live and Collective Soul with special guest Big Head Todd & The Monsters are part of the Belle Tire Concert Series.

Played a similar set list to what they have been lately. Opened with Dam at Otter Creek which was the best song of the night. They played it with intensity that was not really there the rest of the night. The crowd loved the hits, though.

Does Ed always censor himself in concert these days? Why not change the word to something else at least instead of saying "Calm the ____ down..." or "Get the ___ UP!" This is a rock concert, you are allowed to say fuck, Ed. That was kind of embarrassing...

They don't say f*ck or sh*t when there are children in the audience. They did the same thing in Toms River last summer. Wouldn't play Shit Town and the audience sang "calm the f*ck down and Ed said something like " guys, there's children in the audience!". I like going to the uncensored concerts!!!! Like those same kids are never going to hear bad words!! Geez!!!

In some instances artists can actually be fined for cursing on stage if the event is considered a family event , that could have a lot to do with it.
