I'd have to go with Run to the Water, despite how cheesy i think the song is, eds vocals just rock the boat. Its just a perfect display of his (good) falsetto and control. I cant remember where i read it, but apparently they were in the studio all day trying to get that song right but ed just couldnt get it. So him, the band and the producer went out to dinner that night and polished off a couple of bottles of red wine, came back to the studio at some ridiculous time, and ed stripped down to his birthday suit and nailed the song in one perfect take, blind drunk and butt naked! Cool

so what do you guys think is the best vocal performance from a recorded live track?

I feel the exact same way, except about "Heaven".

Ah, so that's where the stripping on stage is for!! Looks like he has improved then; these days he can do it with his pants on! wink.gif

I agree with you on RTTW, but I also really love his Mental Jewelry-voice!

I heard all of them got naked, producer and engineer as well, and that it was for TSUFL, not rttw..
How is Heaven Ed's best vocal? It sounds completely average (for him) to me.

I think TDTH is the best album in terms of vocals

Hands down its got to be Sparkle. Those vocals kick ass. Ed really got all black up in it, for lack of a better expression. It was like he was in a Pentecostal Church. That's what he reminded me of.
Oh and the "overcome" note he holds at the end is the longest note Ed has held, that I've ever heard nod.gif He held it for like 12 seconds exclamation.gif Man, I just love his sexy ass vibrato singing.gif
Another thing is that i believe most of us can fairly follow Ed's vocals and sing along with him but with that song you just gotta shut up and listen and go wow.gif thumbsup.gif

I don't even believe that even Ed himself could sing that song without a couple of days of vocal exercises no.gif

"Feel The Quiet River Rage" would definately be second.

I just love Ed's voice. He's truely got soul. Every so often his sound of blackness comes out. ( yeah mama, oh lawd lol.gif )

Great choices! Meltdown especially! The "oh yeahhhhhhh" note at the end is just awsome.

Dolphin's Cry music.gif . Talk about a sexy song with a sexy voice nod.gif From the minute you hear "the way you're bathed in light" you look up from whatever the hell you're doing cause the voice just makes you wanna do eyebrow.gif whoever ( no matter how butt ugly they might turn out to be ) is singing the song innocent.gif
I don't know if I mentioned this already but my manager at work has totally fallen for Ed's voice. She's a middle aged married woman. And trust me, even she want to do Ed all cause of his sexy voice

I've always said that The distance to here was a vocal masterpiece even if it's not my favorite album.

Just listen to his low voice of The distance or the screaming of Sparkle.

Run to the water is also a vocal masterpiece, and in Where fishes go at the end...I couldn't take it anyMORE so Iwent back to the sea....yeahhhhhh HAAAAAAAA...this is one of my favorite of all time. Great opener!!

Overcome would be a good choice. Good signing also.

Alex
