I only watched some of these clips 2 weeks ago. Didn't want to say his face lying, looking for answers or for a spin to save himself from trouble. Really a bad interview for him to say the least...and the interviewer isn't really that bad on him. You can't think he is sane regarding the breakup after watching this.

Those videos are like the Zapruder film to me. I could watch them over and over again and analyze them. The way he picks his nose in his right nostril when he gets uncomfortable. That slight squinting in his left eye that accompanies the perturbed smile when he is asked a question he doesn't want to answer. The ominous glare into the eyes of the interviewer. His head bobbing and waving around to try and make the interview seem "cool". Trying to be funny and goofy at times, to immediately cover up the uncomfortableness when he realized that he veered into a dark territory. Saying "to be honest", which is a classic textbook way for showing that you have been lying. When asked about using the name Alive for his album, he starts to get pissed. He says hewas well aware of the comarison with Live and thought it was "funny" but when he iasked if he ever questioned the choice, he snaps "no" glares and smiles angrily into the camera. He is trying to invoke Throwing Copper and The Distance To Here as much as he can to market the solo album. Claiming credit for LIve. And when he is asked if he has moved on, he tries so hard to invoke his Live credentials, and he says "there really wasn't for me a dramatic shift from the Live records to this record, because I was doing most of it anyway" in the same interview where he says that Live was getting old and stale and he had to change direction and the process was so different. From beginning to end, he comes across as a complete fraudulent public facade that is full of shit on the inside. This is the real Ed. This is the touring, marketing, publicizing, money-making, merch-selling Barnum and Bailey huckster that is Ed Kowalczyk, folks.

In that first embedded video, I particularly love the way the camera person zooms in really tight right before the interviewer asks that last tough question, as if he knew which question was coming and they wanted to capture every quiver and twitch. My goodness, the body language is screaming messages in these videos. I feel guilty about taking such glee in watching this again. We should all get together and play a drinking game where we all do a shot of Patron every time Ed gives his "tell" that he is lying. That telling body language is not a "mischaracterization". May we never forget these videos. They should live on in infamy.
