QUOTE(Sonic Tonic @ Feb 5 2012, 5:18 pm) *

just to expand on this, a great session drummer/musician can play a vast variety of music at all/most levels of difficulty and is quick to connect with other musicians. Looking at his credentials, it seems like this guy is more than capable of playing Ed tunes.

I mean from shelby lynne to steve vai?

Not that I cared for this rammy dude (the creep factor was ahhh) but I looked into him and he is a lot better of a drummer than he shows on Ed's music (obviously cause that's what ed's music called for/Ed wanting that way) Not my taste but I will not blast the guy (anymore hehe, I jumped on that wagon a few times before too) just cause he is playing with Ed.
Some of you just want to say he sucks because he is/was playing with Ed and you are still butthurt about the whole thing or don't know any better as far as drumming goes. I am only speaking of his technical abilities as a drummer here. Not what he looks like or how he plays Live songs. But that there goes into the whole objective/subjective debate where I learned long ago is a debate that can never end.

The issue with Ramy seemed to be more that he couldn't do justice to Gracey's drumming on the Live tunes, nor did he bring anything rather unique to the table other than his looks.

Not even that, I doubt any drummer that Ed would get would do justice to them the way CG did. Ramy was just an out and out terrible drummer. I mean as Funky pointed out, you don't need to be playing drums for long to play the drums from Ed's music, but Ramy was just ... wow.gif

Which probably got him hired to begin with since Ed has become more style than substance, at least in my opinion.

Droppin like flies? Maybe they wanted to collect pay for services rendered?

He's obviously not getting the crowds they were expecting to the shows.

I guess the only way he can get his 100k lead singer bonus is to cull musicians.

Nah, I think it's more of the staggered schedule, his band can't make the committment. He's better off with no band, only solo with his takamine and a microphone.

His problem is he has two types of fans.

1) People showing up to see Live which he and his "band" just can't deliver no matter how many covers they do.

2) People showing up to see Alive which he won't deliver because he relying on his past association with Live to get people in the door and is singing mostly Live songs.

Neither are getting what they want. Crowd size will dwindle the longer he tries to keep this up.

If all goes to plan, that should be happening soon(at least for a good number of his shows).

That'd be his best option. Go acoustic. He has always done good acoustic versions of Live songs and would probably do the same with Alive songs and could fit more in.

Honestly, I'd go to an all acoustic Ed show.

I would not go to a "band" show.

I agree totally. I don't hate the "band" shows, but they don't play Live the way Live did. and I actually like the songs on Alive enough to want to actually hear them in concert (because I think they're better in person). So I guess I'm both of those fans. And he has not delivered on either.

I went to an Open Wings acoustic show, and it was wonderful. More of that is what's necessary. The show I saw he had a girl with him who play some kind of box (it was a percussion instrument, but it literally just looking like an upside down wooden box) and that was pretty cool. It was enough. I'm hoping he leaves the band at home for a while.

Heard the new drummer was not too good tonight, not in sync. Like I said, this is no plug and play and expect good quality thing....it's control for control's sake. Go really solo and lose the band

I'd much rather hear acoustic EK for sure than the glorified trainwreck that his band, whatever number of incarnation it is now. To me the full band idea was tarnishing the music much worse anyway, playing acoustic sets in small venues just makes sense to me anyways.
