I hear you. Since you love the old VH with vintage Dave. You must acquire the Warner Demos 10/1977. It's out on dimeadozen. Most excellent.!!!

I'm a huge fan of DLR era VH but I honestly think they'd be better off if they had stuck with Hagar at this point. He's a much better performer and singer than Dave at their age. I just don't like this at all. Glad I saw them back in the mid 80's on DLR's first go around, and with Michael Anthony I might add. Just not the same, not even worth it to me.

Sam and Mike still got it.

I have to agree! I really like the new Chickenfoot. Sammy is a solid songwriter/performer and the new Van Halen song is just awful! I listened to it a few times and just cannot connect with it at all!

The second song on the album has a wicked riff to it. Other than that I prefer Extreme with their hard funky metal to VH

Love da Chickenfoot. Great stuff there, great musicians.

Got A Different Kind of Truth right here, outside the remade Tattoo song (which I don't think will grow on me) it's a nice hard driving VH album!!!

The tracks from their vault are quite good. I like this record. It's totally in the DLR schema. Glad they were able to finally put out some 'new'/old music!!! Trying to listen closely to the bassline. I do miss Mikey though. The kid will probably get a bit better with age, he's much better than 4 years ago for sure.

Stay Frosty is kind of like Ice Cream Man, bluesy acoustic into hard line chords and melodies. I'll list off the tracks and point to the old demo tune which it's taken from.

Here are the tracks taken from the 1976-1977 Demos which are collectors items.

Tattoo = Down in Flames
She’s The Woman = She’s The Woman
Bullethead = Bullethead
Blood and Fire = Ripley
Outta Space = Let’s Get Rockin
Beats Workin = Put Out The Lights
Big River = Big Trouble

These are completely new tracks:

You and Your Blues
Honeybabysweetiedoll
China Doll
The Trouble With Never
Stay Frosty
As Is (From Eddie's 2009 Two & half men appearance)

This new album completely and totally rocks. These guys are past middle age and they made an album that sounds like they are 18. This is real Van Halen. Perfect album. I have literally waited more than half my life for this and it exceeded my expectations by far! Talk about delivering a tall order. Anyone who doesn't like it or doesn't get it should have their ears taken away. I can't wait for this concert!

P.S. - Van Halen has proven that they still have fuel in the tank the way CCP proved it with TGF.

Yeah, I checked it out. Certainly better songs than Tattoo but it's not that great. Dave's voice is gone. Michael's is gone literally. Eddie brings it and Alex brings it. Instrumentally it's pretty strong. I've got to give them that. You know they pro-tooled the crap out of Dave's vocals. Based on the youtube clips so far there is nothing that would get me excited to go see them. I don't really see much reason to buy it either. There are plenty of classic DLR VH albums to keep me satisfied. I think it's an injustice to compare TGF and VH. TGF doesn't need any studio help to prove they rock. They're just as good in concert. No way you can say the same about VH, at least with Dave. Plus his stage theatrics are just ridiculous. No thanks.

I may not have a sophisticated ear, because I don't hear how Dave's voice is shot or how it has been enhanced. To me, that sounds like Dave. I love his voice. The yelps. The cracks. The growls. The music is awesome. The lyrics are fun and classic Dave. I love the little tongue-in-cheek references like "look at all the people here tonight" and "I told you I would be back".

This is classic Van Halen, which means it was made for the dude wearing shades and cut-off jeans and faded T-shirt in a jeep wrangler driving on the strip whistling at girls on his way to the beach with his surf board sticking out the back (metaphorically speaking). When I hear this, I am a teenager again. That's all I wanted from this and that's what I got.

Perhaps my excitement can be explained by the juxtaposition of what Van Halen did here compared to my repeated frustration with each Metallica album that comes out and each Live album that was released this century. Here Van Halen delivered.

Comparison to TGF? CCP hasn't made anything that sounds like early Live in like 15 years, and then they get together with a lead singer who had some rock and some collaboration in him, and they came out with TGF and it showed us that it was still in there. Van Halen showed me that after 28 years, they still had classic Van Halen in there.

Perhaps your excitement after waiting 20 years for this has usurped you ability to hear. Dave is pretty much a one note singer, or should I say talker. He's not even singing half the time. The screams or yelps you refer to now seem like painful attempts to reach the soaring heights he once did so effortlessly. The material is classic because half of it is classic. The new songs aren't bad. The album overall does reek of classic VH, missing a few elements. Dave is just not the same. I'm not even sure how you can't hear that. You'll find out in concert, unless your sheer excitement overwhelms you. Maybe they'll bury his vocals in the mix, or beef up Wofies vocals. They sure could use Michael to add some depth to his vocals because it just isn't there. Although I do have to give a nod to Wolfie for not being half bad. Just not Michael though. Overall, I could see how this would satisfy rabid VH fans that have been jonesing for the DLR era for so long. There is just no way to say this picks up where he left off though. It's just not at that level. No big deal to me. Like I said, the old stuff is still in my catalog and I'll spin it when I"m feeling nostalgic. Otherwise, I'll stick to the rockers that are still at an age to make music like VH did back in the day. Not the geriatric set trying too hard to hold on to their youth. Dave just seems like a joke to me at this point. If I hadn't seen the youtube clips perhaps I'd feel otherwise. I'm not sure how anyone could watch him without cringing. Sort of like Ed in the latter years of Live.

Well, it isn't as though I haven't heard DLR sing since 1984. I saw him with Van Halen about 4 or 5 years ago and I saw him solo with his band a few times and I have the DLR Band cd which I wthink is also great. So I have heard his voice as it has trailed downhill from where it was 28 years ago. But I still like it and I think it sounds great.

That's cool. I'm sure there will be some awesome EVH moments in concert. And Alex still pounds the crap out of the skins. I just really don't like when older rockers try to perform as they did when they were young, particularly singers. If anything, I appreciate the effort by VH to deliver and it appears that fans are responding pretty positively overall. I'm not big on the nostalgia factor of seeing old bands perform either. They really have to be at or very near their peak level for me to entertain seeing them. That's why I try so hard to see my favorites as often as I can when they are in their prime. Once they reach a certain point of decline I move on to younger bands. There are plenty out there making great, powerful music in their prime the way VH did back in the day. I'd put TGF in that category. Kevin's vocals were insane in concert.
