I'll take my chances with Live 2.0 vs a reunion with Ed anytime. The odds of getting something that sounds closer to classic Live are much greater with 2.0, unless all you hear is the sound of someone's voice. For that matter, EK doesn't even sound like he used to let alone write songs like he used to. He's 180 degrees from where he was then. Unless he comes full circle your best chance of getting something resembling the Live we all like is with 3 guys who have been unleashed to create that type of music again and a singer who is up to the task.

I clearly know I'm not alone. One would just have to read LIVE's FB to see that. There is a clear divide down the middle on LIVE 2.0.

Wrong. There isn't a clear divide, it's more like 90% - 10% in favor of new Live. And that's only with the fans that are still left. I'd also say the majority of the fans that left did so with Ed leading the musical direction and would at least listen with open ears to new Live before making their judgement. And please spare us the stupid SS vs TC sales figures as some indication that they were losing fans back then. You've said yourself that the radio climate was in flux already at that point. They were going strong until V, which has been documented as a time of Ed's growing influence and band dissension. Live's future was fully cemented with BOP and killed with SFBM. The no Ed no Live argument is coming from people who can't seem to distinguish Live of the 90's vs Live of the 2000's.

Fixed it for you.

Thanks man. This no Ed no Live stuff is getting real old. You'd have to have your head stuck in the sand not to realize the difference in Live pre and post Ed takeover. Anyone who spent enough time around this band knows that they managed to keep things together through TDTH. The V period was a mess. Did the label problems contribute to their problems? Sure. Are they all culpable, sure. They went off the tracks during that time. However, and this is a big however, they never really had a chance long term. Ed's ego was already blossoming well before V. The V period contributed to the already existing discord between Ed and pretty much everyone else associated with the band. But the point is, Ed was going to be that way no matter what. So blaming anything or anyone else for Ed's ego and what happened to this band is just wrong. The musical output of this band is directly related to Ed's influence. Early Live, equal contribution, shared vision. Newer Live, nearly 100% Ed contribution, sole vision. That's not Live, that's EK. Alive is a pretty good indicator of that. Not much different than SFBM. And, although TGF is quite different than Live, the spirit of making true rock music as a band is captured perfectly. Take those 3 guys and a new singer that is on board with continuing the vision of early Live and you have something that at least warrants a listen from anyone that called themselves a Live fan back in the day.

Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, but a lot of people that want Ed back seem to be the sort that have trouble seeing beyond a voice in a band. Its the most identifiable aspect of the band to them. The ones who are at least open to the idea of a change of voice and lyrics seem to be the ones who see the band as a whole. I bring up again the "not noticeable drop offs" comment as I still think it is the stupidest thing I've ever heard on the board. If you really can't tell the difference between Ed's backing band and CCP then its no wonder you want Ed to come back and front Live and no one else, the voice is all you can recognise.

The sentimentality is there, yeah in an ideal world Live in its original form would have kept kicking on making amazing album after amazing album, but the formula got changed up and the whole thing went balls in almost every way. Live were such a great family band, not that you'd gather the kiddies around to listen to "Stage", but it was all so close knit within the band, you felt good that they were brothers. It sucks that isn't the case anymore between them, well it is for the majority still, but not for 1. But you gotta get over that stuff.

In the end its happening the way its happening and everyone really should be happy. Ed is doing exactly what he wants, his solo stuff that sounds like latter day Live, if you liked that then its there for you. CCP are doing what they want and that is bringing the spirit of the old band back, the sound of yester-year and that's what so many have been craving for years. When it comes down to it, everyone is getting what they want with the best that they have to work with because obviously the perfect scenario where the original 4 reunite and come up with Throwing Copper 2 isn't going to happen.
If you're unhappy because you can't fathom the entity of Live continuing without Ed then that's just your problem that you need to get over, focus on the music, gravitate towards the music that makes you happy.

The one leading the no Ed no Live bandwagon. The others just want great music.

His little cha-cha dance moves and the 4 people in the audience is laughable. I wonder if they got a free bowl of soup with the purchase of a ticket.

I wonder if Ed is ever on stage doing shit like this and thinks back to when Live sold out stadiums and says to himself "Wow, I really fucked everything up."

Ed also butchered LC and The Distance.

Also, Nick, since you are so concerned about new Live fooling the average fan, please see this video as proof that Ed is already doing it. The uploader clearly thinks that is Live.

Only to you and a very few staunch no Ed no Live nuts. The vast majority are in favor of them moving forward, even quite a few skeptics. Now go and cherry pick a few anti Live comments for your argument. That's all you've got

That just means the uploader didn't read his ticket stub.

So if I respond the same way if it happens with new Live then that reason/excuse is valid, correct? They didn't pay enough attention? Right?

And how do you know he didn't read it? Maybe he did and since Ed is still trying to be Live that the uploader just thought it was Live?

Poster mentions Live. Stub mentions Live. Ed is singing Live songs. Who is being deceptive again?
