You haven't heard the version Ed did at the Layne Staley Tribute show in 2009?
Ed posted a video of it on his YouTube but it's been since removed.

MP3 is here: Man in the Box
Details about the show: Seattle, Wa/Portland, OR (Ed solo), August 22, 2009

Thanks Dan. I'd seen the youtube video, I never got the mp3. Happy to have it. smile.gif I love it.

a cover album??? bad idea, if ED was still in the band MAYBE, but why a cover album when we dont even know who is singing no.gif

Below was my comment in the OP on that.

QUOTE
- Doing a cover album would take some of the focus/comparison off of Ed. It would put some distance between new Live and Ed prior to a full Live album release. Instead of comparing the lead singer to Ed some may be inclined to compare the cover to the original.

The cover album doesn't need to be a complete album. Maybe like 5 or 6 songs. Something to give people a taste but not reveal any of the new Live material. It would also buy some time for them as far as working on a new album.

They could even keep the suspense up by not crediting the vocals on the cover songs to the new lead singer. That would be kind of cool. It would at least be SOMETHING. Just put "LIVE" for Vocals, Guitar, Drums, Bass etc.

Maybe, but depending on the songs covered it could be awesome. The band I mentioned in the OP, Halestorm, put up like 50 something songs that they liked and had the fans vote. The songs that had the most votes they covered. It would involve fans, be songs they like and the choices could cover things from past and present and could potentially get them back in the conversation as far as recognition goes.

I remember Shinedown gained huge notice when they covered Simple Man. There are tons of examples like them.

Now that would be pretty cool. Involving the fans would be great and totally something I'd be down with. As for Shinedown, the whole Simple Man cover thing was almost accidental, really. They did it for a radio station on request (told to pick a cover to do), and it was so well received they then moved forward with it. It was also one song on an album of original material, it's worth noting.

Found the video of Ed performing 'Man in the Box' - Ed's last name is spelled incorrectly which made it hard to find...
