Let's take a little time out to remember some of our favourite Live lyrics - back in the glory days when Ed was at his peak. He really was a world class songwriter. Lately, I can't get this out of my head:

QUOTE
Like Himayalan cold winter
These jaws of Kali Yuga
Yeah, it's a crazy kind of cold
A lifeless slumber in a stranglehold
Yeah Tibet, she can't even touch this
I'd rather freeze in her forests
We're in a spiritual winter
And I long for the one who is

Fire!
Amongst the dreamers
You are in my heart

It's just pure fucking brilliance; absolutely masterful use of language - simply amazing stuff.

What lyrics are you currently high on, or are your personal favourites in general?

QUOTE
now we walk in the dream
but dream no more
to live a life in love the only thing in common was
we knew there was somethin' more
now we walk in the dream
but dream no more
to live a life in love
to hear the voice in the wilderness
the other side of the door
somethin' more

I was wrong
oh yeah, I was wrong

Don't you feel so very pointless in the feelin' of the rain
and the violence of the sun?
I must confess that I feel graciously bigger than the rain
and hotter than the sun
What do you do, what do you say
when the blood you've spilled is of your loved one
And the kremlins of the world fall all around you?

We deal in dreams
We deal in dreams
We deal in structures that grow cold in our hearts

Oh fearful crying people
The fool is by the river, watching but not swimming
It takes energy not to get used to it
and fall into this place
Where everything runs together and dies
This quiet kingdom, she is now
and forever will she be
in silent celebration

Ray you arsehole you stole my idea, I was so going to make a thread for talking about Ed's good points and what drew us to him in the first place as a sign of good faith to certain people that think I'm a troll on this board tongue.gif

I'm on my lunch break now so no time to contribute but I will soon! It's a good topic, none of us would have been here if at somepoint somewhere in time Ed didn't really mean something to us.

QUOTE

he's a bonified man
a star amongst his clan
and the only one that let me ride

it's the memory that dies
our gas hed was right
when they lanced his skull
there was puss and light

(I haven't looked at the liner notes in a while. I just noticed "bona fide" is spelled bonified. since bonified isn't actually a word, I assume no one bother to tell the guys that it's properly spelled "bona fide" ?? )

but none of that detracts from the awesomeness that is this song thumbsup.gif

QUOTE

always fighting the storm
buildin' shelter to house our lack of love
we're only here for a while
tear it down and suffer the wound

.....

an invisible mississippi, ganges, or a nile
i can feel the quiet river rage
forcin' my lips into a smile
don't believe that the world is empty
just too noisy to hear the sound
I can feel the quiet river rage

I love the way this thread starts with 2 quotes from TDTH

But I will go with...

QUOTE
oh Hitler, in a robe of truth
my emptiness has built your altar
and I've worshipped myself in you forever
until now!

Pretty impressive, huh?

Was always really fond of one of his absolute earliest:

QUOTE
I though I knew exactly what scared me
And I'd never have to run again
So I went to sleep and began dreaming
Of perfect lives and paradise
Woke up and started screaming

It's very simple but for such a youngin the idea of believing you have things pretty good, so you sleep and dream of how life could actually be, then you wake up to the realization that things are not as sweet as your dream and reality sets in.

I know it may not be exactly that but that's what I got out of it.

I'm also a big fan of:

QUOTE
lost in the maya
overboard in the sea
there was void and then that water broke
then something called "me"
now a trip to the desert to look at the sky
it's like never-ending mirrors
playing tricks on my eyes
//
the face and ghost my guide
I must move on
it's the face of one ravaged by love
it's both dead and alive

It's just beautiful imagery. I have no idea why but the words of this song make me picture beautiful ancient Aztec ruins and south American moutain sides. It's hard to even explain but when it just makes you feel something it's great. The image of this "face and ghost" being sone kind of being the has experienced the highest highs and the lowest lows, ravaged by love which can bring both of those things. Simultaneously being drained of life and full of life. I just love it.

All of Operation Spirit of course, all of Brothers Unaware. I've always loved the use of words in:

QUOTE
used steel
used steel am I
what was pliable in love
is now hard and crystallized
the intellect is fine
for counting money
and recalling times
that she cried,
"groundless and free"

hope is a letter that never arrives
delivered by the postman of my fear

But every example in this thread so far I totally agree with. It's not always about the content of the song, it can be as Ray pointed out, the use of language. Image and feeling provoking language. I can't recall an album that sounded sonically in the same sphere as TC did at the time have messages from Krishnamurti throughout, it made it so unique! It was in some ways like hoodwinking a kid into eating good food when they think they're eating junk food. People rocking the fuck out to the music with more than "just words" of love behind them, but real philosophy and spiritualism.

QUOTE
oh desert speak to my heart
oh woman of the earth
maker of children who weep for love
maker of this birth
'til your deepest secrets are known to me
I will not be moved
I will not be moved

don't try to find the answer
when there ain't no question here
brother let your heart be wounded
and give no mercy to your fear

adam and eve live down the street from me
babylon is every town
it's as crazy as it's ever been
love's a stranger all around

in a moment we lost our minds here
and lay our spirit down
today we lived a thousand years
all we have is now

run to the water
and find me there
burnt to the core but not broken
we'll cut through the madness
of these streets below the moon
these streets below the moon

and I will never leave you
'til we can say, "this world was just a dream
we were sleepin' now we are awake"
'til we can say

in a moment we lost our minds here
and dreamt the world was round
a million mile fall from grace
thank god we missed the ground

run to the water
and find me there
burnt to the core but not broken
we'll cut through the madness
of these streets below the moon
with a nuclear fire of love in our hearts

yeah, I can see it now lord
out beyond all the breakin' of waves
and the tribulation
it's a place and the home of ascended souls
who swam out there in love!

run to the water
and find me there
burnt to the core but not broken
we'll cut through the madness
of these streets below the moon
with a nuclear fire of love in our hearts
rest easy baby, rest easy
and recognize it all as light and rainbows
smashed to smithereens and be happy
run to the water (and find me there)
run to the water
