Chad Taylor:With our MCA/ Universal contract long behind us, +LIVE+ are permitted to rerecord any song under our considerable catalog. Yes, this would include rare gems such as “Hold Me Up.”

I don't want a new recording of "Hold me up"...I wan't the killer version we have heard...

Will the new LIVE album be rerecorded B-sides?

I agree wholeheartedly. I want the original Throwing Copper magic. But despite years of pleas and endless bullshit, it doesn't look like anyone from the band cares.

Hey, remember recently when Chad T said the following on FB:

"I'm an expert at only one thing - music. What I can teach you is that listening is the single most important part of being a good musician." whistle.gif

Yeah, let's try that one more time:

I'm an expert at only one thing - music. What I can teach you is that ***LISTENING*** is the single most important part of being a good musician. bomb.gif uhoh.gif

I believe that if CT owned the rights to the song, he'd release it as is. He has said before that the hold up with such releases is "in the hands of the lawyers" now. He's well aware the fans want to have it, but he can't get it released that easily. Hence why he mentioned rerecording it because that's one surefire way the song can see the light of day.

I think and hope one day the original will be released, but it's not so simple.

He could always leak it. Whether that's 'right' or not is an entirely different argument, but it is HIS song after all. Mark my words, it will NEVER be legally released.

I believe in an ideal world it is his song too, but realistically it belongs to someone else. It sucks. But saying you're listening to the fans doesn't mean breaking the rules at the same time, I guess they're trying to find some sort of balance. Hopefully, some day...

Drew, you're an old skool live nut. Care to explain why you think HMU won't be released legally?

My reasoning is that they've had soooo many opportunities to put it out there, from Mallrats to Awake to Zack and Miri, and it never got done. And the only people who really care are real Live fans; not enough to convince label execs to put in the simple time and energy of signing off on an iTunes release.

Also, now that Ed and CCP have parted ways, even though CCP control the Live brand, I don't see *any* studio recordings coming out, as I'm sure that's an additional legal obstacle (even if it did somehow get to that point, which it won't). The Churchbox Sessions are enough of a challenge, and those are recordings the label has no power to stop. I actually doubt those will make it out as well, but I'm hoping to be proven wrong.

Bottom line, the fact that Chad (a guy who is all about moving forward and making 'new' music) opened the door to taking out the time for rerecording things says it all. He knows there's no way "Hold Me Up" or "New City" or "Change" or anything made with the label will ever leave the vault. Those recordings never legally seeing the light of day is already a foregone conclusion. It's sad... "Hold Me Up" was the very last completed piece of Throwing Copper fans could have ever hoped for. sad.gif

It may never be released legally, agreed. But I think we'll get it tough, sooner or later.

Hopefully in another 40yrs then when CT is on his death bed that his last great act of defiance is to reach out and click on the "upload" button and go out with a bang!
