I'll give Ed's new album a try. If it sounds different from Alive in any way then I'll be impressed.

I agree. The way I see it is Ed/Live/TGF/CCP/Kevin Martin have all given me so much that, regardless of the way some things are now, they all deserve at least an honest listen from me.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Mar 22 2011, 10:00 pm) *

Not to have a go at you here bud, but this response always perplexed me. When someone critiques something that someone does doesn't always mean they can do better, but it doesn't change the original statement.

I can call Jay Neagle a complete waste of space on the Essendon playing list and say he's a shit footballer (cos I know everyone will know what I'm talking about here, but bare with me). There is no way in hell I could play better than him though. But, that doesn't mean I can't identify that for the level that he's supposed to hang with, that he isn't terrible.

I mean, I don't agree that KM sings like shit. He's really won me over for the most part in so many ways. When he's on song, he's amazing. But there shouldn't be a prerequisit to be better than him before you can criticise them.

I believe its called Ad Hominem and even though the argument might be false i kind of agree with +Ed+.

It is very easy to rip someone apart who has done something creative when in reality it takes a LOT of balls to be creative and put yourself out there. There was someone on this board a few years ago who posted a fan-review of an imaginary new album by live, and it was ripped apart by some of us. Chad Taylor got wind of it and then basically owned us by writing a lengthy blog on this very subject which i thought was pretty cool and opened my eyes a bit. There are degrees of course, im sure Kevin Martin and Fred Durst dont give a flying fuck about what anyone thinks but there are those who are baring their souls for perhaps the first time and silly abrasive Internet comments can be disheartening at the least. But then again i guess an artist has to learn to take criticism. Anyway im getting off track. You are right too pokey, we all do it but it just made me remember chads post smile.gif

Q: What is coming up on the horizon in 2011?
I’ve started to write for a new record. We’ve released the second single “Stand” and we’re promoting that. And I have my third baby daughter coming in April. I’m hoping to get back in the studio sometime in the next six months.

Any word on the Action Front?

Either way, I think both sides have a point here.

I've heard KM sound like a wounded deer trying to sing LJ. Made me cringe to the point where I was embarassed for him. But on TGF'S debut album, IMO, his voice is undeniable amongst the best in rock and roll period. I'd honestly like to see any artist on todays scene even come close to sounding like that. His voice is a throwback to when rock actually had some edge to it and some creative integrity as well. People can disagree all they want, but I'd bet good money that 90 percent or more of relevant rock fans and artists alike will tell you that his voice on this record is complete gold. After hearing him in concert, I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever heard anybody who is any better, and I've been to a lot of shows in my time. I was blown away by the range and the power in his voice, as were a lot of other people on that tour.

On the other hand, I agree with Eams about Ed completely pussifying some of his songs to the point where you kind of laugh and feel embarssed for him inside. It's not about not liking it, it's about why the changes have happened....to try and reach out to the leagues of fucked up pop fans who droll over that nonsensical bullshit. The people who listen to a song like Just the way you are by that Bruno guy and actually think the music is good. You tell them its not but they try and tell you that it's subjective. But NO, it's not. The music itself is so simplistic, it could be composed by a ten year old. Single cord bass lines and three tone loops on some yamaha keyboard that again, any person with absolutely no musical background could combine together. The thing is, people go all lady gaga for this crap and it's so utterly pathetic and sad. That these same people turn around and will argue with you til your blue in the face that the music is good.

To me, it's obvious that's what Ed has aimed for and I think it's pathetic. Like most artists today, he's sacrificed his artistic integrity in order to attempt to make some money off the legions who don't know any better. And yes, same with his coffee, stick figures and everything else. But then I listen to an acoustic version of Zion and I think that I'm validated. His genius is still right fucking there. So when I listen to how it gets dolled up and pussified, I know for fact that he's sacrificing his integrity to put out garbage that hopefully the masses of dumb as fuck musical idiots will hopefully fall for and buy.

Too bad that society has come to this in so many different way. Sickening actually.

I was listening to Closer just before and it came on shuffle right after a live version of Iris from some time in 1995. Putting aside how amazing KM sounds on the album singing Closer (because you're 100% right, Luke, he fucking rips it up). Ed's voice singing Iris was just incredible. That was maybe not classic rock, but its rock with a grunge tinge and then even some blues or country toppings. His voice just had so much character. My thought was, I reckon 1995 Ed would do a fucking amazing job singing Closer. I can just hear Ed's voice of then absolutely taking to the song and making it sound amazing.
This isn't a what would sound better, Ed vs KM singing it, but just makes me think of more missed opportunities if that was the sort of music that CCP were wanting to make with Ed and he instead wanted to keep singing Selling The Drama with a massive grin.

So is there a date that SFBM III is supposed to be released?

I remember when I first heard the name SFBM and I thought it sounded cool and that maybe Live was returning to some of the earlier days. It was foreboding and with the cover art and the all black CD I was thinking SS has returned in some form or fashion.

I hadn't heard any of the songs prior to buying the album. This was done on purpose. I popped in the CD and first up was The River and I thought it was a solid song. It wasn't what I was expecting but it also wasn't entirely a let down. The album still had hope. I was cautiously optimistic. Mystery played next. Then it all went to hell.

SFBM II (Alive) was similar but I had heard Grace prior to buying the album. Grace had a little edge to it. Maybe Ed had taken off the skirt and was going to put down a great solo album. That wasn't the case.

World Dreamer, you have basically summarized exactly what millions of former Live fans went through the last few years. This is the sole reason why the fan base went from millions to maybe a few thousand since the TDTH era.

It wasn't lack of promotion or marketing. It was piss poor music and Ed trying to pull the good ole' bait and switch on us. Ed apologists need not rationalize it more than that. I haven't given SFBM and Alive more than 2 spins.

I didn't spend a dime on either album because combined they weren't even worth a penny. I doubt I will spend a nickle on his next album either.

CASE CLOSED!

*IF* Ed dares to release another album, I'll probably download it, give it half a spin and throw it in the garbage can like the last 2 releases from Ed.

I'll find a way to illegally download it, then follow your lead. banana.gif
