It seems to me as if Chad wants to try his best to get LIVE back together. Has anyone noticed the huge increase of LIVE Facebook posts and the decrease of TGF posts? No summer tour dates (outside of a few shows), nothing from TGF. Just old LIVE videos and reminiscing.

Ive yet to see this interview because I am at work -- but as much as I hate to say it, Ive been thinking that the huge disappointment/lack of concert tickets/lack of album sales for TGF might lead to CCP trying everything they can to get LIVE back.

I hope not. TGF is still one of my current favorite bands and the best rock record of the last half decade.

Someone please tell me Im wrong and that they mention in that interview how they want to continue to push this record, tour behind it some more and get the word out. Summer tours are filling up, I dont see their name anywhere.

I'm actually shocked if the tour to promote this album is already basically over and left for dead. The does not fair well for the long term success of TGF.

Kevin talks about it in the interview as if it is the project I'm starting to think Chad is still hoping it's a small time side gig.

yeah, it's sad for TGF that they can't do what they want so much. Like touring the summer festivals for example. They talked bout Pukkelpop, Pinkpop, etc. Not any european festival date showed up yet. Also they said a while back TGF was the mainfocus for the next 5 years. I havent heard them say that in last few interviews.
What were the recent recording sessions for, btw?

I find it shocking that an album as good as TGF's might be swept under the rug this quick. The whole world should listen to this fucking album. It's WORTH it.

I gotta be honest, that is all on the guys. I love what they do, but too many missteps were made in the first tour, and there has been no follow-up since. I really just don't think they realized how little name value they would take into the new band, and how different things would be than with Candlebox or Live.

When Appetite was picking up steam on the radio they needed to tour, tour, tour but at the height of its popularity the tour ended. I'm assuming that had to do with losing money. That sucks. They haven't been off the road for too long in general musical terms, but for a new band they have been off the road forever.

Think about this - when I was touring my band played around 80 shows a year. We toured as the four of us and our only cost was food and gas. That's a lot of cost, but even at the worst shows we generally made that back. We managed to turn a small profit playing shows that ranged from only 15-100 people.

If TGF had slimmed things down at the beginning - no tour manager, no huge bus, no stage crew, just take along yourselves and a sound guy, the tour could have been a lot more profitable for them. The cost to have all of those amenities could have been put into promotion for singles, posters in cities, and general use. They did a lot of slimming down to make the tour work, but the initial inflated ticket prices was a pretty big sign that it would be a struggle. Shoot, no one at Summerfest knew who they were because there was zero promotion. I was worried then.

Making a living doing this is very different than what I've done, but I think the same principles still apply. You slim down your touring outfit and put your money into promotion. Ed is able to do that naturally by getting a big slice of income at acoustic shows, for TGF it needed to happen in other ways.

For example - I talked with the owner of the Visulite before their Charlotte show. He told me about their touring contract and how many pages of stuff they had to mark through because they couldn't fulfill it. The venues they were playing were not the kind of venues that the guys , from Live especially, were used to seeing. That's just the way it is.

The life of a mid-level touring band is not a rock star life. It is all grit and work. They traded that when they decided to not brand themselves as being related to Live or Candlebox. I think the guys got part of the way there - the use of social media was strong, they really started to connect with their fans, and they definitely found a way to make the tour work - but, you've got to get all the way there to make it work.

I do hope the band will give it another shot, but the self-titled album is dead in the water unless they hit the road soon, or they are using this time to push songs at movies, tv shows, etc. etc. Shoot, it isn't hard to get your song on a TV show these days, you just have to either build the connection or foot the bill. They've talked about wanting to get on with a bigger band to tour - I hope they can do that, but I don't know how you show a bigger band that you can help their show by not touring yourself.

It isn't that the music isn't amazing - it's that no one knows it exists. Facebook, Twitter, etc. can't do that for you. Radio play, television spots, movie spots, and touring will.

i know they did a couple weeks in europe, but they havent been on tour in the US since 12/11.. thats almost 5 months!!! when a new album has been out to promote. granted, chad had his injury, but still thats about 2 months where they could have been planning something small to get back out to promote this thing this spring. usually dates get announced 1-2 months out, as of now - nothing. just chad wanting to get LIVE back together in the same room. aggressive.gif

I wouldn't expect these guys to approach TGF they way some college aged budding rock star would. They should be riding the gravy train at this point. Personally, I think you have one person to blame for that. Candlebox had their own issues but have managed to stay together and respect their bread and butter. It sure seems like C,C,P have tried to do that but one person is unraveling that. It must kill them to see him out there doing what he is doing with Live's legacy. It certainly appears that he has no intent to rejoin with them. He could be honoring Live by focusing on his solo act as a side deal, or mistress like Kevin likes to describe TGF. He doesn't even acknowledge his former bandmates and appears pretty intent on moving forward without them. This hiatus truly could have been some time for each to scratch an itch, and it appears C,C,P would like to think of it as such. I don't think so with Ed though. I think he's wanted this for a while and I don't see that changing. Hopefully he'll come around. A healthy and functioning Live is better for everyone, including TGF and Ed Solo.

It would be cool for a tour of Candlebox and Live where each rotate being the opening act and throughout the show you get some Ed solo (Overcome, Lightining Crashes, even some Alive material) and some TGF tunes along with Candlebox material and Live material. It would be like one big band.
