I'm still sticking with U2 but throwin my support behind Nirvana and RHCP as overrated .. and if you say anything bad about RHCP all you get is "BUT FLEA'S A GOOD BASS PLAYARRRGGGHHHH!!!2!" he's ok, but he's no Les Claypool.

I don't think you can call Live overrated, I mean the average person hasn't even heard of them so tongue.gif

Flea's the best I've ever heard, so stfu.

Also, there's John Frusciante.

That hardly makes him as great as he's made out to be.

People who call him the best are the same type who would be liable to call Santana the greatest guitarist ever.

Yes, but John Frusciante's solo music is far more interesting, if nowhere near as mainstream, as the RHCP. I do think they're a little overrated, but they are fantastic live.

As for other overrated bands, I have to agree with most of the posts here, Nirvana, U2 and Guns N Roses particularly irritate me. Tool and The Doors I also think are/were overrated, but I do like some of their music.

And from an Anglocentric view - Oasis - they fucking suck and are shamefully overrated.

I'm going to add Goo goo dolls to this overrated list. I enjoy several of their songs like Iris, but overall they suck.

Thank god! I thought I was the only one on the planet that thought they sucked.

I have a lot of bands that I think are overrated. Green Day is one of them for sure. Along with Three Doors Down. I'm basing that on the talent I perceive them to have.

As far as Nirvana goes, I don't know enough about them to say if they are overrated or not but I will say that Kurt sure did have a passion for his music. Whether you enjoy that type of music or not you can't deny that. I would hate to say music that is that powerful to some people is overrated. I guess that goes for most bands though. If a band's music has had an affect on someone's life it's kind of hard to call it overrated even if it's not your taste. I just cannot imagine anyone being affected by Three Doors Down. I mean they are just so blah!

Plus, as a Christian, I think Maynard Keenan can go to Hell because he likes to mock my beliefs.

Have you read my thread about 10,000 Days?

You might want to.

Either that, or you can go on just pretending that you know what you're talking about.

Not to be trendy, but yeah, nirvana is hella over-rated. U2 also has to be on my list. Rush. Dream Theatre. Uh. Green Day is a good call, too. There are plenty of others.

IMHO:

Korn (bleh!).

Creed (I have no idea how they managed to sell as many albums as they did).

The Rolling Stones (They just don't make very interesting music).

I'm sure there's others, but that's all I can think of for now.

I also can't believe that no one has said Coldplay yet. I like them a lot, but they seem to catch a lot of flak these days.

Oh, and Nirvana rules. You people are just jealous. tongue2.gif

yea, three doors down is another overrated band. Just so... repetitve and bland.

I'm going to throw another band out: Good Charlotte. Unbelievably horrible. I went to the Bridge Bay Concert (Its a charitable event founded by Neil Young. Various artists perform there) Anywho... Good Charlotte played there and it was so bad. Hardly anybody clapped after the the torturous song was over, and two teenage girls were screaming "We love you!"

Edstipe you brought up a good point, Coldplay. I'd put them right behind U2.

And as far as emo bands go these days, I mean they're all shit but I can't figure out how people can honestly say one is better than another .. so take a band like My Chemical Romance .. they seem to be the biggest one at the moment ... why?

I forgot about these two.. or should I say blanked them out of my mind until somebody went and mentioned them.

Creed - Ah yes, good old Stappy - that's what happens when rednecks on trailer parks want their own Kurt Cobain.

Coldplay - the band without an original idea in their heads. First album was a shameful and second rate rip off of Jeff Buckley. Then they moved into U2 territory with that panscrub haired tosser of a lead singer perfecting the art of being as sanctimonious and annoying as Bono and the guitarist getting the signature Edge sound off to a tee.

While I'm in a bad mood, can I add Nickelback - the bastards... Creed lite. How in the name of bloody fuck have they managed to get a record contract, let alone sell so many CD's. I've heard of dumbing down, but are people really that fucking stupid and lazy? These bunch of knuckle dragging buffoons and Creed are the reason I hate Nirvana even more as time goes on - it's all their fault. I just wish Layne Staley had died before Cobain, then at least the whiny little middle class kids would be worshipping the memory of a far better band and I wouldn't be seeing so many 12 year olds in black smiley hoodies.
