I knew because of the context of the interview. Some folks apparently didn't take English in middle school. Context clues!

Kevin,

I saw my name mentioned in a post, read it, and repsonded immediately. Now I've actually had a chance to read the entire thread.

All I will say about the interview is that I originally took a quote as I watched it, stated a sarcastic comment, and posted it. Then I got that response. It wasn't meant to be a jab at the band or you. It was an observation of an aired interview and I posted a thought immediately as I watched it live. I will say that the interview was very well done and I even complemented Chad on how humble he was. I didn't see any of that mentioned by you, just the quote I took from what you said.

I do have a feeling, since you claim to have been checking the board, that perhaps he read my album review, which was positive, and took some criticism very personally (which I can see):

QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Sep 21 2010, 7:39 pm) *

I know their choices were probably limited when looking for a singer and they probably found the best person that they could, but at times he takes away from a song rather than sustaining or adding to it.

I could understand your frustration with this and why you would provide backlash towards me. I know that putting your heart and soul out there can be very difficult.

Art is subjective and from my perspective I felt that a small number of songs were brought down by the vocals and could have been better. Scrutiny is part of being in the public eye. It's nothing personal towards you, it's nothing that I intentionally looked for, it's just how felt as I heard some of the songs.

I think on almost all of the tracks you did a fantastic job writing and belting out the lyrics. I did recommend the album and stated that I really liked it because I do.

I maintain that I take offense to you stating that I'm not a true fan of Live and referring to me as a bad apple. I feel that it is far from the truth. I am a huge fan of Live and I do not feel that I am a bad apple by any means on this board. There are many here who are far more vicious and negative on this board than me.

To be honest I often feel that I am in the middle of the Ed vs. TGF board war because I have consistently supported both sides and discussed my enjoyment of both while others have been nasty and hateful towards one side or the other.

In my opinion I am one of the most positive people here when it comes to my overall view on everything Live. You are, however, entitled to your opinion even if I disagree with it and feel that it is misinformed.

Kevin - In the end, I am honored that you took the time to read my comments. Many musicians do not take the time or effort to ever interact with their fans.

I wish you and the guys (and Ed) success. Thank you for collaborating with CC&P to put out a fantastic album for people to hear. I hope you enjoy playing the music that you've put out there, and I hope you continue to create more music with them again in the future.

Hoodstock and all Fans of Live m-boarders,

I am going to try to clarify a few things that I said and again hope that i don't offend anyone in the process.

1st things 1st, Never called you, Hoodstock, the bad apple, that statement was previous to me mentioning you in my rant, and quite a rant it was if I do say so myself, and I've come to understand that Nick is the bad apple no?

2ndly, I did not misunderstand the topic of this thread, can and do appreciate Sarcasm, as I am one with those of you who can appreciate a good stab, and am sincerely appreciative of good and bad opinions as I have many of them myself and can be one of the "assholes" with them so no worries there as I have stated several times that I am the funniest person I know!

3rdly, I was merely trying to say that I was tired of the mudslinging that was going on in this message board. Perhaps i handled it the wrong way, perhaps I am way off base or maybe i am an Asshole but I really just want to see the shit talking towards up STOP, whoever's doing it. Doesn't mean it has to I just want it to is that so bad? I am not thin skinned and can take a lot but when it comes to my friends and the music that we create i will defend that them and that emotion that is our music.

You don't have to apologize, you don't have to like my voice, I'm not a big fan of it either, BUT, I sing my ass off because I LOVE what I do and the fact that CC&P asked me to be their singer is an enormous HONOR, hence my defensive stance.

As i stated earlier, never meant to offend anyone here I just simply wanted everyone to take a long hard look at themselves and the glass hoses they live in.

Again, sincerest thanks to everyone that has taken the time to listen to The Gracious Few, like it or not we are stoked that you would all take the time to do so.

Hope that clears a few things up!

All the best and see you soon,
Kevin Martin

Kevin, I'll take a more honest approach than Bre and say that yeah, Nick's the bad apple. But, don't let that asshole ruin the bunch. We'd love for you to stick around and talk more often. As for your voice, I think Luke said it best a week or two ago when he said something like, if anyone thinks his voice is no good, try singing it yourself and you'll sound like an American Idol tryout reject. Too true. Thanks for your efforts, for TGF, and for us old school Live fans, for helping CC&P's vision of writing real rock n roll again come to fruition.

So what if Nick hates TGF, does things in spite of CCP, makes comments about the music industry that might not be correct, loves Ed and post-2001 Live, etc. From what I understood, his main beef was about Chad Taylor making public announcements about his disdain for Ed. I feel there are valid arguments for and against what Chad did. Even Chad renounced letting the cat out of the bag to some extent. That doesn't make Nick a bad apple in my opinion, even if it is annoying. From that rationale, everyone who has been ranting or has an extreme opinion about Ed would be a bad apple as well because the truth about the breakup is unknown right now, no matter how much you assert otherwise.

Kevin should take note that while TGF is mostly about 5 guys making music they love, Chad Taylor, and to some extent CG, has perpetuated a side commentary on Ed for over a year, which I think is easily the proximate cause of mudslinging around here. Still, Kevin suggests that everyone give each other a break when it comes to their opinion of the people making the music, TGF, CB and Ed. That is good.

QUOTE(NiTRO @ Sep 22 2010, 4:44 pm) *

The 6 year hiatus took a huge hit on their devoted online fan-base. When Into the Sun was ramping up and the news spread that the band had reunited there was a lot of action on the newly launched candleboxrocks site and forum but for whatever reason, it did't take for the long term. The fans still turn out for the shows and support as always but the online contingency has been lacking.
Since I came from the Candlebox "camp", I guess you could say - I wanted to add that the official site shut down the message board for a long time between 2007 and 2008. In 2006, posts were strong, but then for some reason it got shut down? Not too sure why. It eventually came back up shortly after the album was released in 2008, but by then not many people came back. Except me, and a few others. I still check it every other week or so and post my recordings there.

KM is a good dude, btw. (which im sure you all know)
Ive been seeing him perform for years and am stoked that hes with the LIVE guys. As a Candlebox fan, I was worried at first that one of my favorite bands was going away (most of us wanted a new LP this year or next), but now that Ive heard TGF, Im completely cool w/ it and wouldn't mind if he does another record with TGF instead of the cbox boys smile.gif

its only going to get better from here.

-dewey

God dammit, Hoodie, just when you were starting to have better posts (in contrary to 10000s of annoying polls, remember?) you fall back into horrifying thoughts. It may well be the 21st century and all these inet thingswhen you can easily access any celebrity in the world to tell him or her what for and especially if the public figure is SO open to the fans as The GRacious Few and Kevin especially.

Look. A new band is winding up for an upcoming tour. They are leaving their families and homes, working their asses off, lose sleep, have hardly any rest and STILL take time to appear online to conect to those who are interested in their music. They come to Facebook, twitter and even a message board. I for one feel priveleged and honoured to read and inside post or two ever once in a while especially when it comes to topics that are interesting to me (can an inside info to a band which you adore be not interesting??). Anyway, the musician hopps online and sees words like YOU ARE AN ASS, YOU SING LIKE A BEOTCH or anything of that sort. I say fucking 21 century, fuck interent then I would prefer to suddenly hear a song from a music shop and buy a tape like 20 years ago! Because I do not really enjoy seeing those ill sequences towards the musicians who are first of all REAL PEOPLE who fucking work for us! WORK FOR US ALL.

BTW music is much bigger than you, Hoodie, much bigger than me, Kevin, TGF, LIVE or whoever. It is bigger than life and lemme tell you much more important. It is a perfect form of art that is eternal and vital.

Damn I wanted to write 3 times bigger post, but forgive me, having a week off, I got ill and can hardly make my brain work.

On another note thank you very much to Kevin for taking time and posting here and good luck with the tour and album sales! BE aware that with this band you got dozens of old fans back into pure rock and also acquired hundreds of new ones!

And Nitro, thank you too and welcome aboard. Good to have you around!
