Yeah, Closer kind of goes there but to me it seems like it can be applied to a lot of things.

QUOTE(livefan86 @ Sep 12 2010, 11:08 am) *
anyone read the lyrics for the few? to me it looks like the song is about the CCP's troubles with Ed and how they are breaking out.

just my two cents.

alot of lyrics on the album sound like they could relate to that, definitely w. the Few.

One criticism is that the melody in the first line of the verses in guilty fever reminds me of the verse lines in Purifier. I guess it sounds like a bunch of other songs but I think that might have been borrowed straight from Live/Ed.

A lot of these songs were CT works that he's been sitting on. And Purifier was a CT work.

I don't really hear that at all, those songs are a lot different.

It isn't anywhere close to what Ed stole from Kelly Clarkson on Drive. smile.gif

Had a listen last night

First impression after first couple of songs was 'wow',this is quality. Unfortunatly Kevin's vocals don't do much for me as the album go's on. The music is good,it's hard, but vocally poor. Just my opinion, but he doesn't do anything for me at all,he's average at best on most songs.

Think it's great that some of you are loving it,but the hype about it being an all time classic...maybe in your own eyes, but this album won't make any impact around the world. You're kidding yourself if you suggest otherwise.

It's good to hear Pat again,I thought he'd died or something in the last decade? Gracey is great on this album

I'm really interested in why certain people aren't digging Kevin's vocals. I think it would be more interesting to know "why" instead of "they are poor."

I think if you dig a classic raw vocal style (Plant, Mercury, Roger Daltrey, Steve Perry) its a no brainer. The dude has range and to spare, but if you don't like a high male vocal than I get it.

Just curious because usually the comments are just "I don't like it" with little explanation beyond that. Are people just expecting Eddie K's vocals or what?

I wasn't referring to the whole song, just the vocal melody in opening lines in the verses of Guilty fever which sound kinda like all the lines in the verses of Purifier. I mean when you put them back to back, they're different paces and slightly different perhaps, but I thought of Purifier right away when I heard it.

Is it that hard to cop that some people won't like his vocals? Why make the comparison for people hoping for Ed's vocals....don't automatically assume it's a Kevin V Ed thing with everyone,it's tedious

For me,that screaming type of vocalist has never done it for me. I just can't connect with his style. To me he fails to give a story, and a lot of the time it doesn't fit the music for me. He does well in Honest Man,Appetite and Tredicm. Crying time is a good story telling song. For me though,he just can't keep me interested for long enough for this to be a classic album for myself. It's good, but not great because of it

Time for work..

I think hes got awesome range, he totally nails it when they reverb his high pitched screaming, but maybe things like the verses of guilty fever are kinda soft. Once in a while hes sounds a little matchbox twenty-ish. Even with his obvious talent, when you think of robert p and brian johnson, you know they lived a certain wild lifestyle, larger than life dirty rockers. KM is sort of just representing that vocal style, which was associated with that lifestyle, and just singing in that influence. Not to say he isn't rebellious, but I'd say its not quite the same as how the folks on your list put out.

Maybe Kevin is just mature enough to know that constant drugs and booze aren't the smartest things to be doing. I'm fairly positive that he has a family. Maybe that could be the reason that he's not out living the lifestyle as you speak. That doesn't take anything away from the music. I respect famous people who don't take life for granted, and throw it all away with that shit.

I do not care how he lives his life. I think he is appreciative that he is a musician and making music he loves.

He does nail these songs. I'll have an extended review this week.

I don't mind that some people don't like his vocals, I've been a Candlebox fan since 1993 and have had the discussion many times over. I was more interested in knowing why because I am a fan of music and I enjoy discussing it. You gave a nice explanation and I appreciate it.

As for the EK thing, you didn't do it but that has been a point of discussion numerous times on this forum (example: people saying they would like the songs a lot more if Ed were singing them). That was why I brought it up, I wasn't trying to start anything.
