Well I finally got the CD last night, and after a few listens I can say it is one the best CD's I have ever listened too. Whether that holds up over time, I can't say, but for now its definitely the best. There isn't a bad song on this CD. I love the all uplifting vibe of the music, and it just flows together so well. I liked Birds of Pray, but to me the music was a little forced at times. SFBM is just a damn good album all the way around.

Songs that we should be hearing in concert soon are Night of Nights, Get Ready, and Wings. I really like Home too, not sure if the band will play it though.

Glad you like the album! I've been enjoying it now for the last 3 weeks. I actually like it better each time I listen to it. It's not my favorite album from Live, but it's one of the best sing-a-long cds they've put out. It's hard to drive around in the car and not sing along to it. Over the weekend I was driving around with the windows down singing along in my falsetto voice, not giving a care in the world. This convertible pulled up next to me, and I kept singing, I couldn't have cared less.. it was great! lol.gif

I have a feeling you are only saying this because you were anticipating it so much. So yeah, my prediction is that your opinion won't hold up over time (I got sick of every song on the album except Show after about 5 listens). But at least you didn't mention anything about record labels in this post. I think that's a first. thumbsup.gif

I agree, even the songs that I find weaker (You are Not Alone, Show) have some redeeming parts to them. I like this CD more than I ever thought I would. Home being the biggest surprise, after all the negative reviews regarding it.

Nah I anticipated Birds of Pray just as much, but it took 3-5 listens to get into it. SFBM took one listen to really dig the songs. I have a feeling you shouldn't try to analyze someones opinion when you obviously have no clue.

thumbsup.gif (I'll give you a thumbs up too, just for the heck of it)

Ok, well brace yourself for my first impressions review of SFBM. You knew it was coming.

I’ll admit that sometimes I have a short attention span when it comes to listening to new CDs. I can get bored quickly and abuse the skip button. Live was never, ever a band that I needed to use the skip button for. But sadly I had to fight the urge several times.

All in all, the songs are ok as far as fluffy, happy little poppy songs go. But as far as them being good LIVE songs, they totally missed the mark. As an old school Live fan, I was left confused and even amused by what I heard. There are only 2 on the entire cd that I can say I truly love.

I’ll attempt a song by song review so as to not be completely negative…

The River - Such a happy, catchy little tune that I really dislike. I think we’ve beaten the dead horse on the reasons haven’t we? But - Why does it feel like its just Ed and an acoustic guitar with a few treats to some Gracey drummin? Why does it seem like Ed is holding back and singing like he’s afraid of the sound of his own voice? We’ve also got a lot of Ed backing Ed on vocals and simple lyrics.

Mystery – Or should I say Mystery-hee-ee since that is how he sings it every time he says it? Well at least we have good music with a good beat. Hey, I hear Taylor and Gracey! And tons of strings. Lyrics are a little better, nothing earth shattering.

Get Ready – the Vocals start stronger but then fade. There’s that acoustic guitar again, and the Ed on Ed backing vocals. Simple lyrics, not a bad tune until the end when all of a sudden I feel like I’m at a sing-along and I have this urge to start clapping since the music stopped. WTF!?

Show – Finally, a little rockin! Don’t get too excited it won’t last for the entire song. Another simple song with a repetitive chorus. (I’ll show you free!) He tries to rock the ending but he missed.

Wings – At least Ed’s voice sounds normal hear, not like he’s afraid to use it. Soft guitars. Not all that bad of a song… catchy, radio-ish with more Ed backing vocals.

Sophia – The music rocks! Too bad I hate the rest of it. The rhymes and lyrics just feel forced. “Diamonds & pearls don’t move this girl” “Momma” and my personal favorite “the black widow’s a spider!’ Um. Duh?

*Love Shines – Woohoo!! I can finally say “I LIKE this one!” Ed’s not singing like a sissy! The lyrics are sweet and it makes me smile, all around. He even gives a whisper sing in there. We have a winner! Its still over produced and full of Ed echo, but I’m ok with it here, the rest of the song makes it all work.

Where do we go from here? – Great music! I heard the whole band again. Nothing really special, just simple and catchy.

Home – Oh God. There’s that sissy Ed voice again. Nice point to the song and everything but yuck. If I were a soldier, I think I’d be insulted by this. WTF is up with Ed? He even sounds like a girl, not just like he’s writing for one!

All I Need – ok, I’ve about had it with these fluffball songs and I’m really fighting my skip button urge to the point I had to sit on my hands. I’m fighting to pay attention, they all sound the same. Ironically, Ed just sang “I find they’re all the same” well, finally Ed, we’re on the same page. Maybe it's an ok song, I'm just really losing patience. Do I hear keyboards?

You are Not Alone – No, Child! Yeah, I really can’t take much more of this.

Just when you’re ready to lose all hope, you get *Night Of Nights. Why the hell did they put this as the last track on the cd?! Half the people stopped listening 7 songs ago. Now THIS is a Live song. I love it! It’s got hints of Ghost [my all time favorite] it has hints of sissy Ed, but it’s ok! He meshes awesome Live and new Live together and it really finally clicked. I absolutely love how he makes “Li-ive” and “Gi-ive” 2 syllable words. Makes me think of “More skeon!” and that freaking rocks. If more of them sounded like Night of Nights, the cd would be so much easier to take.
