QUOTE(Pokey @ Jun 14 2010, 12:54 pm) *

Snap!

The guys were basically session musicians on SFBM, V, and certain songs on BOP. Without knowledge of the situation, if Ed had a publishing contract regarding songs that he wrote 100 percent himself, I don't see a huge problem. They were basically his songs.

Chad Taylor complained about the quality of V, BOP, SFBM, but then turns around wanting money for songs he had basically nothing to do with?

And it's all their fault because they're spineless.

So basically when it comes to you .. friendship, moral conscience, integrity, character ... all these things go out the window so long as you "are right" ? You must be a hell of a friend to have...

Read my signature......I believe it's Gracey talking. He's telling us what really happened.....they weren't allowed....but they kept the peace out of respect.

And furthemore, if Ed wanted to get all the $$, the honorable thing to do is go solo himself and end the band, Once he performs them as Live, the others are owed....this is simple math. The secret contract made it ok for him to get the cash and render the others mute....as he did not include them, and alienated himself from Chad, Chad & Pat for a long time. It's pretty clear to me.

There is no way the guys would have continued to play that shit if they didn't think they would be compensated. Somewhere along the line Ed changed a 20 year agreement he had with the others. "Allegedly" of course.

Ed did all the legwork and wrote the songs. They basically just played their pre-arranged parts on the album. I don't think the rest really deserve ownership of something that they didn't create in the first place.

hmmm....

you know what... Live has always been and still is my favourite band. I have no doubt at all that it will remain like that forever. The perfect band with 4 perfect band members, each of whom played the instruments (voice included) to the full extent that the band needed, who were 4 best friends since childhood and who influenced my life more than anyone else EVER, more than my friends or parents, who were 4 parts, inseparable parts pf the best band who released the best album in the history of music...

I have never EVER bashed a single person on this board with all due respect for those who keep the conversations going....
and now I read this from the admin of this band's board

Exactly .. so Ed probably wasn't threatening them at knife point to not write with him. But if he refused to write with them an accept their input what could they do? They probably wern't comfortable with breaking ties at that point. Nick calls that spineless. But they could have been keeping the peace, hoping Ed would come around ... you know, trying to save a friendship rather than pissing it away like Nick obviously thinks you should do in these situations. And you can bet your life that if half way through the SFBM process if the rest of the guys went "nah fuck this, we're out" then Nick would have painted them as horrible monsters for deserting their friend and breaking up his favorite band.
I doubt that the other 3 guys leaving Ed isn't and wasn't an easy decision to make.

You fail to understand that it was a band / split 4 ways......what you think and what is legal and right are not on the same page.

Do we know 100% that this is even the exact issue that they're fighting? We don't ... you yourself even said that, we don't know.

Chad Taylor is not stupid, he's a smart guy .. I'm sure if he decided to fight it then he has a point and a legit reason to do so. Otherwise it would just get thrown out of court. So when he posted that blog I choose to believe that he has legit reason to do so, and if it were exactly as black and white as you seem to be thinking it is .. well .. god damnit it just isnt.

It doesn't matter! The songs were created under the name Live, of which all were equal parts. There were obvious contracts among the band, and Ed circumvented these agreements as soon as he found out how. To you its always been 3 session musicians and Ed. Thats a fucking shame!

They were compensated with album sales and tour money.
