Pokey, I know you saw Ed when he went to his acoustic show, wasn't that in Australia? I don't see why TGF wouldn't tour there. As with Ed, I'm sure they would promote that they were from Live so I'm sure
that people would see them just based on that even if they haven't heard TGF music yet.

By the way, did Honest Man get released oversees yet?

I saw Ed's accoustic show, will be the last time I'll see him pending possibly a Live reuinion.

Live still gets played semi-regularly on Triple M radio, as much as I hate that station, and I can honestly see them playing TGF more than Ed though. So if Triple M push TGF the right way they'll do ok for shows down here.

I don't think it has yet over here, CT said he'd let us know when it was released in Australia so we can start requesting.

Oh I was just asking because if Ed toured there solo with his acoustic show, I don't see why TGF wouldn't play in Australia. I don't think it's really that much of a difference.

I don't either, but Nick does ... Nick thinks if TGF tour Australia it'll bankrupt them or something and they'll get 3 people come out to the shows. I agree that it would probably be a bit easier for Ed to market himself here, he's got the bigger drawing power. But it's not to say that TGF won't sell out the right type of venues and still have a successful and most importantly, fun tour.

Nick has no idea of the workings of indie promotion or how bands without major record lable pushing works. The only music he listens to are the ones that big records lables tell him to listen to .. so to him, how other bands survive is a complete mystery-eeeee-EEEEE. So I don't expect him to understand how TGF could tour here and pull it off.

It is much cheaper to tour solo acoustic with a guitar than full band with a road crew and gear.

Here's a question:
Over the history of Live I began to see "lyrics & music" by Ed Kowalczyk in the liner notes.
Where was the rest of the band?
Why didn't they advocate for their input into the music?
I don't understand why they seemed to be increasingly apathetic to their situation.
They seemed to just roll over and relinquish their individual and collective veto and voting power.
I guess it doesn't matter now because they get to do the music the way they want to which is great and Ed does too.
JUST NOT TOGETHER . . .

It's hard to say really, it's easy to speculate. One person can say that Ed dominated and others say that's the other guys fault for not being vocal enough in the writing process. It could be any number of things, the other guys could have been trying to keep the peace and saw that Ed was really into writing on his own ... wern't truely happy about it, but thought they'd try and support him and that he'd eventually come around and want to write as a collective unit again. This is what I believe, and that eventually they realised that Ed wasn't going to write with them again and it fell apart.

12 years (if you count TDTH) is a long time to wait for someone to change though. That's why I get kinda annoyed when I read comments by them because they allowed it for so long. It wasn't just 1 album...it was 4. Of course, I'm annoyed with Ed that he was too stubborn or ego-driven that he wanted to do it all himself without the other guys.

Well V was pretty much all Ed as we know, BOP brought some of the guys back in for songs like Like I Do and Lighthouse ... and even though the rest is all credited to Ed, there is something in the sound of BOP that leads me to believe the other guys still had a bit more of a part in it. After V, the guys probably saw BOP as a step in the right direction and were happy to go along with it. It's probably only post BOP that I'd say the problems really started. So I wouldn't classify that as 12yrs, more so 4years where it was really bad, with little patches otherwise here and there.

That's true. I think there biggest problem was with SFBM. Of course, Believe had music created by CT so it did seem like they were giving at least some input in the new music. But who knows what was going on behind the scenes at that point.

To me Believe didn't work .. I really loved the music (and hence love Honest Man), but the music just didn't fit with Ed's lyrics. It sounded like CT had written the music and Ed then tried to fit the music over the top of it rather than it all having been written together. So to me it was a sign that the writing process had just totally broken down in one way or another and wasn't working.

And as a result of everything, we now have TGF and Ed solo.

Ive enjoyed for years all of you, and this is my first post. I've been a fan since my first show in WB, PA in 1991. There was nothing better than the four of them on stage blasting the audience. After Samadhi, it changed for me. They added Chris Thorne for some pre TDTH shows, then added Adam and that fucking trainwreck Railo. Ed couldn't have had that much control, so the Chads and Pat had to of gone along with all these changes to a solid band. They allowed keyboards on White, Discussion and Lakini's Juice for Christs sake! For that, I do feel they shoulder some blame for the destruction of the band. Ed was a really good guitar player, and added a lot sonically to the group. That was lost when he became "showman lead singer." Also, it kept his prancing and skipping to a minimum. His lyrics were so abstract, especially on Secret Samadhi, that made you say what the fuck is he talking about? It was so unique, unlike any other band. Water, sun, love and various other themes have changed that. Edward, Ed, EdKo, and now Eddie K (and whatever future incarnation) has become everything that he railed about back in the day and in the masterpiece People Like You. Bono, Springsteen, and Eddie K. Best of luck to both, but I'm really pumped for TGF and think a solid band will find success rather than Daughtry lite. Take care all.

That's a nice post, which summarises Live's sound. To me Live died with V. I understand the change that happened with TDTH but TDTH still had energy, no falsetto, catchy melodies, all members contributed etc. I see TGF as the rebirth of Live with a classic rock edge, which is cool and unique.
