They are going for totally different markets, so it will be hard to compare. Ed has already run successful solo tours in the US, Holland, and Australia. The Gracious Few begin their shows in March.

Both parties should be trying to unite the remaining Live fanbase behind them. The Chad Taylor e-mail ended any chance of that.

I agree actually, I just don't think the Live fanbase (what's left of it) would have remained united regardless. There's no way to know now.

From a non-fanbase perspective, I agree that it won't matter since the two are going for really different markets. It remains to be seen though if either project will make a dent in either market.

all this bullshit hasnt made me a lesser fan of either side. If eddie k is in town ill go see him, likewise with the gracious few. All these people who take sides so adamantly and visciously make me scared for the future of the human race.

Something I can agree with, though I'm less enthused about seeing Ed's show. Just doesn't catch my interest. If the Gracious Few is half as good as the hype I'm sure I'll be quite pleased with what they put out.

I think those of us who don't support Ed choose not to do so because we think nearly everything he wrote by himself is awful. It is impossible for me to get excited to listen to any music he would put out by himself.

The bizarre commercialism and accusations from his bandmates really just pushed the issue further for me. Even without those accusations he has become the person that he used to write lyrics against. That, I can never get on board with.

This is the absolute thing that I see now. Ed has become everything he used to write about in younger years:

poets and preachers and politicians
they've all had their say
and we got 10,000 years
devoted to nothing
but tomorrow and yesterday

if all of the ignorance in the world
passed a second ago
what would you say?
and who would you obey?
I am here to say that

peace is now

mr. President
I hereby pardon you all your crimes
for they are just as much mine

selfishness and separation have led me
to believe that the world is not my problem
the world is not my problem
I am the world
and you are the world
and I, yes I am the world
and you are the world

Oh so "we" think nearly everything he wrote was terrible do we? Lucky he didn't write lightning crashes then...or to mention dolphins cry or face and ghost or dance with you or overcome. Geez if these songs were never released live would have been DEAD a LONG time ago!!!!

When it came to discussing what is going in my fave band, and my girlfriend said: I can not beleive it, if Ed did that whole thing,.. I replied: I hardly give a fuck. It was him, who wrote PLOTR after all.

Thank you and well said! I was listening to Simple Creed last night, and for me that is Live's most rocking song with really uplifting lyrics to boot. That said, without Lightning Crashes we aren't even having this discussion right now, because Live would have been long dead.

Clearly Ed has written some amazing songs all on his own.

You quoted my post but you didn't even read it.

The band is credited with writing the music for all of Throwing Copper and TDTH, while Ed wrote the lyrics. Ed did not write those songs by himself. He wrote the lyrics, which are great on those albums, but he did not write the songs.

While the band is credited for all the music on TDTH, I have heard that it was not entirely the case. The released TDTH was mainly Ed's album, and he even credits it as being his favorite.

Heaven and Overcome are also two huge hits for the band that came in this decade, and were all Ed. The man is a damn good song writer.

I would be interested to see the actual evidence about TDTH being written entirely by Ed. I don't doubt that he wrote Face and Ghost by himself though, or Dance with You.

As for Overcome, I agree, amazing song, which is why I said "most of" what he has written on his own is not great for me. He has written some great stuff by himself, but for me (and those of us who didn't enjoy the last 2 albums much) most of what he has written by himself has not been great.

A lot of TDTH was written soley by Ed. Certain songs like "They Sood Up for Love" were group written. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of which songs were done by whom.
