As you may already have heard, Chris Daughtry from American Idol performed a cover of "I Walk The Line" on a recent airing of American Idol, which sounded eerily similiar to Live's rendition of the same song. New articles on this controversy have been posted to numerous online websites, including MTV.com, as well as the Yahoo.com. I have added 2 downloads from this controversy to the site. The first is a video that was featured on a local Fox news station, which compares both Chris' and Live's covers. And the second is a mp3 of Chris' performance of "I Walk The Line" that originally aired on American Idol. Both of these downloads have been posted below. Nice to be able to see/hear what all the fuss is/was about. Thanks to them who were able to record it!!!

The crap with such things is that what we see on tv is edited. He might as well have credited Live beforehand without everyone knowing it. As far as I heard his performance, he did a good job performing Live's version of "I walk the line".

He actually did credit Live on the following week's show (which was this week), probably due to the controversy. I was pleased that he did thumbsup.gif

Wow!! I can't believe that guy!!! What a jerk!! I also can't believe how upset I became when I heard how much it alike (pretty much identical) it really was!! Is there anything we can do to help?! Well, I know I'm gonna protest by not watching it (I don't anyway, really) and telling everyone I know not to watch it. I'm going to email American Idol a letter, maybe we could all keep doing that, I don't know, too much? Let me know guys.

Meridaye :victory:

I hate how that guy said that Chris did the song better than Live! What the heck?!

P.S. Did anyone else have to re-sign up for the new message board here?

ohw yeah, I DO have Awake, but never watched the 2 'live'version videos much, but thatīs why I recognised it a little I guess kicking.gif
But than again: why did they put such old videos by that song? I mean, Live covered I Walk the Line back in... ehm?1998,99,2000? Anyhoo, it wasn't very representative for Live now smile.gif

btw, anyone ever saw that video (very good quality!) of Live performing I walk the Line in the studio? Very cool, Ed looks not like Ed in that video haha, but he also talks about Johnny Cash. It's on bootlegheaven, I remember.

I don't watch the show...but I was babysitting the other night and flipping through channels. They were asking the contestants questions. The first was "who inspires you in music?" Chris' answer "definitely Ed Kowalczyk of Live". Then later on..."what is your favorite band?" Chris' answer "Live, hands down."

So I don't think he's a jerk. I think the whole thing was blown out of proportion. He obviously is a big ol' fan.

Maybe he did give Live credit, but why would they edit that out? The viewers of American Idol were left to believe that he did indeed come up with that version. So they were duped into thinking that he was original which probably gave him more votes.

All Chris did was manage to get Live more national (U.S.) media exposure than they have had at any time in the past 10 years or so. It was in the papers, on TV, on various websites, and was even mentioned on VH1's Best Week Ever. If nothing else, it served to let people know about Live, or to remind people who already knew them that Live was still out there.

If he was gonna change the key to accomodate his vocal range, then he should of changed it to a more comfortable one. He obviously couldn't hit that low E.

Nice enough voice though. And seriously...
