if you could....

put one live song in a time capsule and shoot that shit out into space for the next couple of million years, for some distant faraway intelligent civillization to intercept and use as the sole basis of learning about this strange, carbon-based race of advanced monkeys that exist on the planet Earth..........what would it be?

Im going for "They Stood up for Love". I got toasted today and listened to and watched the video for this song and i fucking cried my eyes out. What a beautiful summation of life on this unbelievable magnificent planet, of the pettiness and trivial way we conduct our lives and miss out on the truly holy and wonderful gift of a trillion set of random genetic accidents which led to each and every one of us to be here and now celebrating the channel of love which is +Live+.

Constantly, we look back to our birth to explain ourselves, to excuse our faults and lay blame on circumstance and parents for what we are now, and we relieve those anxieties with our misguided and pretentious plans for the future, not understanding that these ideas are nothing but abstractions implanted by the mechanism of psychological conditioning. To shed this conditioning is the beginning of wisdom. This is the "Human story".

No other song by Live is so total in its resolve to expose mankind to itself as a greedy and callous creature, who cannot possibly enjoy the beauty of living unless it observes itself without the barrier of the ego, all while being restrained enough to not be as preachy as some of their other songs, thanks to its laid back and funky construction, and tongue-in-cheek video (the aftermath of western nightlife-indulgence is a teriffic metaphore for the artificial avenues we persue to reslove our suffering, which lead only to pain and confusion). In many ways, it is a summation of the artistry of Ed Kowalczyk. Everything he and the brand live stands for is contained in this song, all of the influences of J. Krishnamurti and the dedication to penetrating the consciousness of the listener beyond what is expected from mainstream rock.

It is not my favourite live song by any means, but if i wanted an intelligent alien race to learn about and truly understand us, this is THE song i would throw out into the void.

what song do you pick?

Fuck Im maggot.
