I see being a true fan as just sincerely loving the music.

It has nothing to do with the amount of concerts you've attended, how much you paid for Death of a Dictionary, or even if you've purchased every single Live album known to man. Achieving all that comes down to having the money which not everyone has.

A true fan is someone who was touched enough by 'Overcome' to participate in a local charity, someone with a new outlook on life from listening 'Run to the Water', or a musician who took the time to create an original arrangement for a classic song after being inspired from 'I Walk the Line'.

That's just how I see it.

Two things:

1. what is a physical copy of a bootleg, is that where some guy has recordedand sold for his own profit or somethingelse.

I own two full cds of bootlegs, however they all come from downloads.

2. my partner can listen to a radio interview and tell you when it was done; she can also do this with live recordings from all over the world plus owns the TC interview disc and a copy of MTV unplugged on VHS (recorded of tv) so does this lift her above "true LIVE fan" and into say Ubber Fan status??

Becauase as I can fit into the stadard True fan catagory she still goes above and beyond.

Somewhere in my house, on VHS, I have recorded both times LIVE was on SNL. I don't think that makes me any more or less a fan than anyone else here.

Lord knows if I could find those tapes...they are so old!! innocent.gif

Why does there need to be a criteria to be a true LIVE fan, isn't loving the music enough.

Just cause someone may live in the USA and is lucky to get more LIVE shows to see doesn't mean that a person in South Africa who may not get to see them as much is any less a true LOVE fan. lets just love them and share them.

Me too, Tina!!! I also have a few videos taped of MTV as well as the Woodstock '99 performance.

I consider myself a fan...albeit a fan of their older stuff. I do not own Radiant Sea, nor do I plan on buying it. I really haven't liked anything that came out post TDTH. I tried, I REALLY did...just not the same band they once were.

If your favorite album is V, Birds of Pray, or Songs from Black Mountain, you're not a true fan.

1. what is a physical copy of a bootleg, is that where some guy has recordedand sold for his own profit or somethingelse.

I own two full cds of bootlegs, however they all come from downloads.

Before the Internet (and more recently bitTorrent) became popular the easiest way to hear a concert recording of your favourite band was through bootleg CDs. In the 90's there were record labels located in Italy and other European countries that would manufacture proper CDs with full colour labels, CD art and even booklets of audience sourced recordings, soundboard shows or radio broadcasts. They would be sold in used record stores, mail order, online or in magazines such as Goldmine. Single discs would usually cost $25 - 30, while multi disc sets would cost around $40.
Through a loophole in European law these companies could legally manufacture and sell these CDs as long as a certain percentage of the proceeds were given back to the band. BUT the band's record label forbid them from receiving income from these bootleg sellers so the money never reached the intended destination.
Nowadays, these sort of companies generally don't exist. With the event of CD trading and bitTorrent fans no longer need to pay excessive amounts for live concerts of dubious quality.

Most of the bootlegs listed on the http://www.joesdiner.com/~drew site were professionally pressed CDs.

Why don't we bring length of time as a fan into the equation???

I've been a fan since I was 8yrs old so thats 14 yrs now, is that long enough???

However, I've only been to one LIVE show (in 2004) does that count me out???

Come on guys the fact that we all post here (obivously most more often than me) should be enough to classify you or me as a true LIVE fan.

Personally, I think anyone who left the band purely because of their lack of commercial success CANNOT be counted as a true fan. But I don't think there is any accurate way of measuring how much people love the band LiVE. shrug.gif

This is pure bs, sorry. One can not admire the music to the full extent at that age.

More like if TC is your Favourite your not a true Fan

if you haven't bought a live album since TC your not a true fan.

if you haven't been a fan since TC you don't appreciate the true evolution of the band. and your favorite song is probably Dance with you

Obviously this is a silly thread because no one can dictate whos a fan. but even know my post was a joke, i cant imagine someone having SFBM or BOP or V as their fav live album. Im sure defenders will respond with a version of "to each his/her own" but this band published 4 masterpieces before these last 3 jokes and the quality of songwriting is clear.

its cool if you appreciate any album they do...i know i find things i like in every album they have.....but i want to hear reasons why someone would have any of the three albums mentioned above as their fav live album....anyone who is a "LIVE SENIOR" should understand what I am saying. A Live Senior isn't someone who got introduced to Live because of The River

Not really man, I was listening to Live on my own free will at age 7 .. I used to play Pain Lies on the Riverside to death, I knew MJ word for word before TC ever came out.

Now that's easily the most idiotic post in this thread. At age 8, my eldest daughter was most likely far more intelligent than the majority of you. I've seen many children that can easily appreciate the value in many things at that age, including music.

Discounting what "ONE" can understand at any age is actually the pure bs here, "sorry."

Huh, I seriously hope that was meant as a joke.......

TC will be the favorite of thousands and thousands of fans and the vast majority of them are and will be diehards til the end.
