In a recent post, another poster here remarked that Ed's middle initial "J" should stand for "jackass" given the way Ed has acted when this poster has met him. This has made me think a little bit about how nice Ed is. I met him one time in 2003 by chance out in public, and although he was nice enough to let me get a picture with him, he hardly said anything and wouldn't let a friend of mine get a picture too. Similarly, I've heard from a few reliable, die-hard Live fans that he has completely ignored them in favor of spending time with strippers, and was essentially a total jerk.
On the other hand, I've heard a lot of stories about how nice he is and how his silence is really just due to shyness. I suspect that most of the people he is nice too, though, are females. So, what's the verdict? Is Ed a nice, shy guy who doesn't like to be bothered by fans, or can he be a jerk? Please support your claims with evidence!

I met him at the York Fair show. He was already in the van waiting to go to the after party. We asked the driver if we could get a picture with Ed....and the driver is like "no, no not right now" So we're like ok, we get our picture taken with Gracey and Pat then turn around and Ed had got out of the van to take the picture with us so he obviously didn't care what the driver had said. He didn't say much but then again it was all family back there with him. I said something like "Ed your such a fuckin' inspiration to me" which seem to give him a good chuckle...I was a mess meeting my idol I didn't know what to say. Then he said something like "take care guys, godbless" that was about it...so I thought he was pretty cool. We also saw him at the after party...I stood beside him at the urinal and went to say something to him...then I was like...I'm fuckin standing at a urnial what could I possibly say haha. So I ended up leaving the restroom before him and didn't really stay around to talk.

Keep in mind that usually right after a show is over, he goes and smokes (weed) or drinks a bit before he does a meet and greet. So either of those I've noticed tend to put him in a more subdued, quiet state. Many people might take that the wrong way. But yeah, he certainly favors that ladies over talking to men.

first time post....

...I met the band the last time they played at Summerfest (july 04). I didn't actually get to talk to Ed as this extremely hot girl was talking to him. But he did let me interupt to have him sign a bank receipt, the only thing I had. From that brief encounter i couldn't lean one way or the other, but this girl was very good looking and he did take the time away from talking to her for an autograph, so that's cool in my book. The rest of the guys were really nice, down to earth, and fun though.

I have to say, although I have met him before, and I found him to be very obliging, many things can go on to make a person seem like a jerk or not. Certain circumstances, or timing, or just the way the day has gone can make the nicest person seem like a jerk, or the meanest person seem like an angel. I wouldn't read too much into the "he said/she said" rumors. I believe he is a good person with a good heart, much like most other people, but certain circumstances can bring a different mood or a different take on a certain situation.
That's just my two cents, you can take it for what it's worth.

I've only met +Live+ once, backstage after a Florida gig on the "V" tour. Chad T. was really nice and friendly. Chad G. was kinda shy but still talked with folks. Patrick was really low-key (he was a bit stoned) but actually talked with me for quite a while. Ed was kinda the star attraction, as is common with lead singers. He was surrounded by hot women and his interactions with male fans was real quick compared to the time he spent with female fans (is my opinion). On the one hand, I can see where folks would get pissed that he was real "in-and out" with meeting some of his fans, but on the other hand I don't think he (or anyone else in the band) owes anyone anything -- I was frankly just happy to shake his hand and get a signed setlist. I will say he was a lot more quiet than I expected, even with the females.

On a side note, I know there is this sterotype about backstage debauchery at rock show afterparties, but I was not expecting it with +Live+ (given the seriousness of their lyrics). I will say there was weed and boobies. 'Nuff said. (Don't worry, I saw no Motley Crue-esque hanky-panky). wink.gif

At a show like six months ago, one band member had a hot girl on his lap and when she asked to go back to his hotel, she was like "but aren't you married?" The response was, "I'm from a family where blowjobs don't count..." lol

I met Ed in late 2004 at a meet and greet, he wasn't rude, he posed for a photo and signed my MJ booklet but he didn't say much and pretty much was quick to move on to talk to females in the room so *shrugs* I guess Ed would honestly be happy if he was the only male in the entire world ... don't get me wrong that has a certain appeal to it at first thought, but then imagine how much it would suck once every month..

Oh yeah and he knocked back my myspace request .. guess I wasn't emo enough or something .. or female enough, I dunno.
But no I don't think he's a jerk, just kinda lame and rents his brain out to his penis a lot.

That being said though, the rest of the guys, and Adam were really top blokes and all took the time out for a quick chat, especially Adam and Pat.

You sure you wanted to use these words in a negative sense?

...sorry, I'm just gonna have to question your manliness otherwise...

Ok to rephrase .. imagine how horrible it'd be when they all get their period.

I guess that Ed is more of a female kind of guy. His lyrics often include the strength of women and some guys just find it easier to talk to girls than to guys ... and well, yeah: If you're surrounded by hotties, what are you gonna do? smile.gif

And that whole thing "not letting everyone get their photographs signed or picture taken" ... I meen, every celebrity would have to spend their lifetime doing that not to upset every single fan. I think it was Will Smith who said it best though: "It's better to ask for an autograph and get a no in response, than not to ask at all". They're people, and they do have other things to do aswell smile.gif

To be honest, I don't really want to meet the band, or any of the celebs I like for the reason of my perception possibly changing towards them.

I'm a huge Philly sports fan and got to meet Phillies Hall of Fame 3rd baseman, Mike Schmidt one year in North Jersey (Yankees and Mets land of all places) and I was the only one wearing a Phillies cap and he couldn't have been ruder to me. He basically took my $85 for the baseball signing and that's it. Would it kill someone famous to smile, say hello, maybe say a little something and that be it?

Actually, the nicest celeb I ever met was the constantly-in-trouble-with-the-law, Darryl Strawberry. He shook my hand, asked me where I was from, joked that I was a Phillies fan, stuff like that. I can see why people like him besides him being troubled.

I'd love to meet Ed and the guys or the guys from U2, Metallica, Pearl Jam, etc, but I don't want to be disappointed in the end.

I got to meet Muhammad Ali one year too. Man, was I honored. He doesn't say anything, but actually stood up, and shook my hand and winked.
