From alternativeaddiction.com:

Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger was fined $600 and had his licence suspended for one year Thursday, thirty days after being convicted of driving drunk.

Kroeger, who lives in nearby Abbotsford, B.C., was arrested in Surrey in June 2006, after being spotted speeding in his red Lamborghini. A breathalyser test later pegged his blood-alcohol level at .14 - well over the legal limit of .08.

Kroeger, whose band has sold tens of millions of albums worldwide, was later found guilty of driving with a blood-alcohol level over .08.

Kroeger wore a knee-length black wool jacket over black jeans to the sentencing hearing Thursday. His trademark shaggy blond hair was slicked back and he wore dark sunglasses outside the courtroom.

"I don't condone drinking and driving," Kroeger told reporters. "I don't think you should do it and everyone makes mistakes."

Kroeger's lawyer Martin Stern acknowledged that Kroeger "clearly made a mistake" but added he will likely still appeal the sentence.

Stern pointed to the fact that Judge Peder Gulbransen found Kroeger's Charter rights had been breached when he was asked to give a breath sample, but did not take that into account in his verdict.

"We feel it's a significant legal issue, and one that we will pursue by way of an appeal," Stern said.

Stern said that because Kroeger lives in a rural area - Abbotsford is about an hour outside Vancouver - not being able to drive for a year will make it "a bit of a challenge getting around."

Stern also said Kroeger was under particular scrutiny during the court case because of his star status.

Oh yeah, because it's really difficult for a millionaire to hire someone to drive them around.

Not too surprised by this to be honest. Still, I won't jump on the hate bandwagon that so many peoply blindly follow these days. He came out and said he didn't condone what he did, and thinks it's wrong. So, for me, that's fair enough. He's not the first celebrity to down some booze and take the wheel, and lord knows he won't be the last.

Not sure how things go up in the wasteland to our north, but DUI here can be surprisingly easy to get out of, especially if you blew only a 0.14.

In this instance I'm having a go at him for being a drunk driver rather than for his trite music. He didn't condone what he did, but he still did it. A ton of metal controlled by someone not fully in charge of their faculties due to alcohol is a recipe for disaster and I've no doubt it wasn't the first time he did it - just the first time he got caught. Until you've lost a loved one due to a plonker who drink drives, you don't tend to take it seriously. No he didn't hurt anybody this time, but that's more luck than care on his part.

True.

Ex, could you please get hired by Chad for him to be convicted for a lifetime in the solitary confinement cell?

Yeah, I agree. I mean, this is the same guy who sucked his own dick just for a case of beer.
