I also own every official album.
The truth is that the downloaded version reaches me earlier than the officially bought albums.
Another aspect is that most of the regular albums are bought on second-hand markets.
But I agree with the statement that having the official CD also means the lyrics and most of all "a certain feeling".

I own all bar SFBM. I can't believe how many people nowadays are comfortable with just having mp3s. The quality difference is vast. Especially with 128kb, but even 256/320 you can hear the difference. There are also a lot of people that drive around in cars with their insanely expensive speakers and amplifiers etc, listening to mp3 CD's. It's quite amusing.

Music IS a product, and I agree that downloading it is stealing, to a certain extent. I must say though, I often download music to try it out. If I like it, I'll buy the CD. If I don't, I delete the mp3s anyway.

I like my music to sound good, hence I don't download or rip anything like 128, around 193 is fine with me because I'm not too anal about it .. I half agree with what Alex says, I usually buy it if I know it's worth it .. the albums I buy are my sort of "cream of the crop" type deal.

Expect that I own every Live album so far, because an album is more than a disc with tracks, the quality of mp3 is not comparible to the real thing, I like to have the complete discography of bands I keep following and I can afford buying them.

Call me stupid, but seriously I don't notice the difference. MP3's and CDs sound just about the same to me. And considering many of my CDs skip because they are scratched or my CD player is a piece of shit, I would actually say the MP3s usually sound better.

I'm not saying that I completely advocate downloading music. I never said that. I ripped my Live songs from the actual CDs. I used legal software that came with my computer. Is this still considering stealing? I could make the argument that, by paying for my computer, I paid for the right to rip any song that I wanted to.

Did you pay for the CD's that you ripped them from? Sounds like you didn't. In that case, yes, it is stealing.

No you could not make the argument that paying for a computer gives you that right.

No, I borrowed them from someone who did pay for them. So, yes, they were payed for, just not by me.

I'm not here to tell you what to do, but if you're asking the question of whether your actions are considered stealing, the answer is yes.

YOU are supposed to pay for use, not your friend.

So .. if his friend paid for the copy, wouldn't that more be stealing from his friend rather than anyone else if you wanna get technical? Cos if it's not stealing from his friend, then what did his friend buy them for? surely he paid to OWN that disc.. but then if his friend made him pay for a copy then regardless of whether his friend bought it or not, his friend is in the wrong for profiting from Live's work.

Best answer, borrow it from your friend so you can rip it, give him the money for the CD and he can post it in an envelope to Live

We covered this in my law class...if you are not the owner of the cd and you copy (rip) it it is stealing. If your friend purchased the cd and you bought it from him and ripped it it's not stealing.

It's okay to rip songs...if you OWN the cds. It's an ethics issue. I have a program that rips CDs. I take my cds and rip them and put them on my itunes so I can put those songs on my ipod. There is nothing illegal about the program...it's just how you use it.

I own each and every one of them, including Four Songs (did that come out before or after Mental Jewelry?). I just need Death of a Dictionary to complete the collection! I'm sure downloadable but I need to find some teenagers to show me how to do it!
