Well, I just got my pictures back and I must say that Ed Roland and Joel Koeshe (hope I spelled that right) are totally rocking there asses off in them!! lol.gif

I do have to admit that nothing compares to the Taylor stomp and Ed's marching around the stage during Lakini's Juice! thumbsup.gif

I can't help it...they are both my favorite, so I try not to compare. innocent.gif

I've come to the realization that both bands put on very different shows and its impossible to compare. Many Collective Soul fans seems to prefer a more mellow concert experience than Live provides. Conversely, a good number of Live fans that I spoke to after the show found Collective Soul to be lackluster performance wise. They are very different bands on stage and in a lot of ways a poor mix.

Collective Soul=Mellow Rock

Live= In your face rock

Its up to a fan to decide which brand they prefer.

You can't judge a performance without seeing the entire show. The first song they played was Where the River Flows. It is so far from mellow...also, much of Joel's guitar solos are far from mellow. I can see where Run or The World I Know or even December can be mellow, but that's about it.

Just my opinion though...I won't debate it anymore. innocent.gif

Shine , Precious Declaration and Home are not mellow songs. They were a good opening for LIVE. Better open band than any other band that has open for LIVE.

Train opened for Live in Australia and in my opinion would blow Collective Soul off the stage. Mellow may be the improper word, I found The World I Know, Shine, and a few other of there songs to be lackluster. I feel a band's main songs in concert need to have something extra behind them, and Collective Soul did not do that in NYC in my opinion.

I personally saw Lit open for Live in 2002. While not a great concert act by any means, I found they performed their hits songs better than Collective Soul did. I also think members of this board would rate Will Hoge over Collective Soul as a better opening act for Live.

I thought he had a pole up his butt because he just bounced up and down for 75 minutes with his legs open(the exact position in the picture). Okay I'll stop!

LOL!! Thank you Jen for making my day with that picture! Just about all my pictures of Joel are like that only without a pole up his butt!! lol.gif

I'm sure he wasn't playing Run...or The World I Know...or December... eyebrow.gif

I still love ya Nick, but you have to see an entire Collective Soul set before you can comment on how mellow they are.

Ok...I'm done...I swear! innocent.gif

well I love some live , but the last show at Centennial Park was kind of a bummer due to the time restraints Live had for the schedule....sorry though....it compares not to a Collective Soul show energy wise...just mho!

I think Will Hoge was one of the best openers for Live. The frickin energy was amazing.

Funny, reading this thread. I came into the concert a much bigger Live fan than of Collective Soul (have seen Live on 3 prior occasions) and thought Collective Soul blew them away, set-list wise, mix-wise and I loved the vibe that they dont take themselves too seriously. The guitar work was amazing. Live had a rough-sounding mix, and songs like The River and Mystery are far from "In Your Face" rock. The sunglasses gimic on the first song was quite hack, too.

I'm sorry, but Live lost me on the last album, and it was a bummer that they basically ignored their best album, Secret Samadhi.

But we can always agree to disagree and Im sure I'll buy the next Live album whenever it comes out...
