Confirming much speculation, Chris Cornell announced in a statement today that he has left Audioslave. The entire release simply said, "Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave. I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors."

With the band electing not to tour behind last year's Revelations, both Cornell and Tom Morello working on solo projects and the announcement that Rage Against The Machine was reuniting for Coachella, the splitting of Audioslave does not come as a surprise.

Meanwhile, Cornell's second solo album is ready to go and will be out on May 1 via Suretone/Interscope. Carry On was produced by the legendary Steve Lillywhite and will feature a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," as well as Cornell's James Bond theme, "You Know My Name."

Audioslave released three albums in their four-and-a-half year career: 2002's eponymous debut, 2005's Out Of Exile and last year's Revelations.

Tom Morello's first album as The Nightwatchman is titled One Man Revolution and will be out April 24.
