Daughtry is supposedly the highest debuting "rock" album in soundscan history. It just makes me sick. Welcome to the Nickelback era of rock. Is it just me or has the quality of music declined signfigantly over the last 5-7 years?

Also, does anyone know what the Daughtry version of Mystery is still on Live's myspace page? All it shows is a missed opportunity by Epic and the band to capitalize on the flavor of the month that is Chris Daughtry. It is just maddening!!!

My advice:
Ignore it.

Don't listen to commercial radio. Don't watch the charts. Enjoy and listen to the music you like.

Just because a whole lot of people are into the whole idol thing, doesn't mean you have to.

Who gives a shit about record sales and charts?

A majority of people haven't even heard of most of my favourite bands. Doesn't mean they're any less talented. Yes it means they don't get as much recognition and ultimately less money, but that's not for you to worry about.

Support the artists you love. Let the rest sort itself out.

Be happy. This is the stuff that is making Ed angry. And when Ed gets angry, we all benefit.

It can even have it's advantages - like gigs. The two best bands I've ever seen live were in small venues (300 to 600 capacity). It kicks arse to be right at the front and see the whites of the bands eyes - you lose that connection and atmosphere totally in a stadium.

I don't know much about Daughtry's music and don't intend to buy it but I will agree that the quality of music sucks more and more as the years go by. As far as I'm concerned there is virtually nothing worth listening to in mainstream music. I am convinced that the only good music being made is being made by Indie bands. The rest of the music world is run by Clear Channel and major record labels that are paying Clear Channel to play the shit music that we are all forced to listen to every time we turn on the radio. Thank god for my satellite radio and the internet. Otherwise I would be stuck listening to crap.

One question. Can anyone name at least five bands that are on a major record label that are actually worth listening to? I seriously can't do it. Everytime I hear a new band I think I might like, I am always let down once I hear the entire cd. I have not been blown away by a cd in years. It's sad.

Has anyone heard of the movie "Before the Music Dies?" It isn't playing in major theatres but I would suggest getting the dvd once it comes out. It talks all about how major record companies are killing the music scene and how something needs to be done about it before the only thing left to listen to is horrible bubblegum pop music.
