I think the band is together for the money, puts in the minimum effort, and Chad G and Pat still don't care for Ed.

I get that vibe too.

I don't think this should be a shock to anyone. They disliked him for years and now they are best buds because they sat down and had a beer. I always hoped they buried the hatchet because they were brothers for so long, but I just don't think that's the case...

My buddy went to see them at the recent show in PA and he said they were very disjointed. Almost like two different bands on stage. Unlike me, he's trying to give this reunion a chance and wants them to return to the band of old. He's seen them close to 100 times so I'll take his word that something seems off.

Was this going off their on-stage interaction or did he see them offstage?

Chris said in a new podcast appearance that CCP really hated Ed. They'd talk more shit about him than people did about their exes. Chris seemed convinced the reunion was a financial decision (they all have three kids each and large families). I take what Chris says with a grain of salt, but it makes sense the original band's primary motivation in getting back together would be financial/to provide for their families. Maybe they've buried the hatchet. Chad T seems to like Ed again (he's an emotional dude), but I don't see much evidence for the brotherhood they talk about in every interview.

Furthermore, the shows they play seem to be the ones that pay the most to a band like Live. Festivals, one-offs, LiveNation Co-Headlining tours, and short tours in parts of the world where they're popular. They've released only one EP. They haven't done anything special for the fans, nor have they done any shows that scream of "let's do this because we love being in a band and playing music."

We see almost no videos of them together, just a staged photo here and there. They don't re-do their set-lists. There's lots of circumstantial evidence that this is a job for them. I'm not saying they hate it or it's a bad job, but it seems like a job. And now that they're quarantined, with no money at stake, they have no desire to do their job for free.

That or a family member is sick, in which case I hope for everyone's health.

Great post.
This last summer I heard that Pat had a separate touring bus. Take that how you will. Maybe he tours with his family, so like you say, it’s circumstantial evidence. But I don’t like the vibes I’m getting from the band. Their show I saw last summer made me feel empty and sad, and I’ve always been a pretty intuitive person. Laugh at that if you will, but I’m often right. laugh.gif I did enjoy Chad T. He was really genuinely happy.

Anyhoozie, they are now coming out of the word work a little. I spotted Chad T. riding his bike, and Chad G. posted a vintage Līve tshirt, both on Insta. Now, where is Ed?!

I met for 10 minutes Chris CT and CG before a show in Quebec in the summer of 2014....believe me that at that moment, I don't think a reunion was in the books. Or they were hiding it very well. CT wasn't cheering for Ed at the time, said a couple of bad comments and laughed about what Ed was doing at some soundchecks when they were doing some kind of intros to Sofia. My gut says CT really hates anything related to Songs from black mountain. Who can blame him?

The job thing looks about right. Don't want to compare, but Imagine Live would release something as relevant as Gigaton. Not a perfect record, but still a couple of gems on it like Quick Escape. I know Live don't have their musicianship, but they could at least get to work.

I’m not defending Ed, it’s very clear they all hated each other back in the day, but it should be noted he’s the only who hasnt talked shit about the other members of the band. He deserves some credit for taking the high ride.I actually like Chris Shinn’s music, a lot more in unified theory than Live, but his opinion is totally irrelevant to me. He’s like a bitter ex who needs to move on.

Anyways, I Meant to ask this the other day. Related to your comments about PJ still putting out some decent songs. Do you guys think Live has one good song left in them?

I hope so too, but what evidence can you point to that they still have it? I think if Jerry produced they could put out something good.

Loy. I know he bothers some of you, but his collaboration doesn’t bother me. He has good guitar licks. When I see them in concert, I don’t even pay attention and I forget he’s there, honestly. I liked 3 songs off the EP, esp Giver. Ed’s lyrics aren’t what they used to be, but Giver, LL, and Brother were more than average because of Loy’s input. I know we all have different opinions, and I think I liked those 3 songs so much because I grew up on 80’s hard rock and metal, so it was more my taste. shrug.gif Like Bremang, I really liked 10,000 Cups, too.

I agree with you, they gave to let someone else other than Chad T. take the production wheel. Jerry preferably. They also cannot let Ed sneak in his solo stuff (Waterfall). That garbage needs to be kept separate. As I always say, it will never be 1997 again, but Live can for sure still bring it. They all have to want it. They don’t even have to all get along for it to happen, but they have to want it. The vibes I’m getting now worry me it won’t happen. But they are capable.
