I will always remember the release for this album because it was the first time I could go behind the scenes and see how each song came to pass.

Watching the clips from the studio on my roommate's laptop and dial-up internet. It was very cool to see the insight from Jerry and the band about the making of TDTH.

I would love to find the old demo of The Distance. It was probably the first MP3 I ever downloaded.

Knowing now what TDTH could've been with the unreleased b-sides and outtakes is disappointing. It started to show the cracks between Ed and CCP.

Did they film a lot in the studio? And is it still available? We love to see it’s

It’s one of the things I really wanted from this band: watching their recording process. Like the short clip before I Walk The Line. Would be great if they did something during the process for a whole album.

Well written as always Swami - thanks for sharing thumbsup.gif

TDTH is a special album for me - it came out on the day of my 18th birthday and soundtracked an exciting and pivotal time in my life (especially 'Sparkle' - man I played that song to death in that first month!). It really was the sound of the band firing on all cylinders (for the last time it turns out) and establishing what their 'sound' was after 3 very different sounding records. The late 1999 tour was also what I consider to be the band's peak in terms of live performance (listen to the Flanders Expo or Hague bootlegs to hear what I mean), before the overuse of falsetto and Railo set in on the 2000 tour).

Of all the albums I'm most looking forward to the 25th Anniversary edition of TDTH (T-minus 5 years now!). Songs like New City, Change and others should hopefully finally see the light of day...

I remember fans on AOL freaking out because SS was "so different" and then TDTH really threw them for a loop, with many proclaiming it just awful... I've always loved the album and it's been fun to watch opinions change over the years... A lot of people now rank it as a fav, which is really cool. And some of their best "lost" tracks come from this one, in my opinion.

Well played Swami.

Run To The Water blew my mind when I heard it and I remember getting TDTH for Christmas when I was thirteen or so. It was my first Live album and as such I had nothing to compare it to. And I'm still grateful for that.

The odd thing is, if I break this record down there are quite a few tracks that I'm kind of cool on - Face & Ghost, Voodoo Lady and Sun for example have never been favourites of mine. How is it possible that one of my favourite and most influential records of all time has quite a few tracks I consider to be pretty average? There's something about it I can't put my finger on. TDTH just has an aura and mystery to it that drew me in then and still does today. You can't put it into a box. It's ethereal.

Kind of gone off on one here but fuck, this record.

Here's to The Distance To Here...a road with no end.

I wouldn't expect most academics like this writer to understand something as powerful as Secret Samadhi.

Yes. From what I recall it was very raw and I think there was a heavy bass line for the intro.

I can't recall if there were video clips or just short interviews with Jerry and the band about recording certain songs? Clips of each song were available to preview which was pretty cool even though I had to buffer over dial-up.

I have this version. It was a long time ago, but I downloaded it before the album was even released. I could be wrong...Maybe it's the same as this demo? Don't want anyone chasing a ghost.

Did Taylor mention it in his old post about all of their unreleased and outtakes from all of their sessions? I need to find that post and go through it again.

Chad was just saying Ed laid down a sick beat on the distance demo. that was it basically.

Why not upload what you have?

Love this album. My second favourite after SS.

OP needs a history lesson though, commercial text messaging arrived in 1995, and by 1999 it was huge.
