Back to compare and complain a little more... on 10/3, I went to see Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) here at a little hole in the wall bar. There were 200-300 of us there, tops. While I enjoyed Skid Row in my teens and I still spin their 1st two albums to this day, they aren’t in my top 5 bands or performers, and I haven’t really followed Sebastian’s solo stuff. But hey, it was worth a go, and I must say, while, I wasn’t nearly as excited as I was to see Live, this headlining show of Sebastian’s was quite impressive!! He has always been a hair-metal God of a vocalist (still sounds pretty good after 30 years) and was always, always one of the best frontmen on stage. -He’s still got it there, too. What’s cool is, I had checked his setlist from a few nights before to get an idea of what to expect and he switches things up nightly. He sings an array of stuff from Skid Row’s first 2 albums, his solo work, and some covers. He also interacts with his fans on social media and has VIP meet and greet tickets for $150. I only paid $22 for my ticket and had a helluva time.

Point is, in the moment, I turned to my friend and said, “I’ll be so glad when Līve gets over themselves and plays these club shows that cater to the fans.”

I'm not getting offended by you or your post in any way. Don't worry. I said it feels like you try to. When a statement like that is made and followed by a laughing emoticon for no clear reason, it's only weird and maybe even childish.

And yeah, I already know you don't like it. And I already said that's absolutely fine. But why it's bad - and even wore then SFBM - in your opinion, still remains unanswered. Weird again. But you don't need to explain if you can't or don't want to. Let's not turn this in another Ed vs The Turn discussion.

On topic: in the chorus of Brother I hear a little angst in Ed's voice. Last time that happened is a long time ago, folks. V and SFBM seemed to lack that all, on BoP it happened at some very rare points. So yeah, 15 years in the making.

The emoji was a realisation it might piss a few people off...well i was sorta right, no?
It all comes down to perception, if you liked those albums, any negativity will conjure up some friction. Even a silly emoji, which means something different when you type it in then what it turns out in the end. If it had shown a simple ": D" (which i intended) or a snickering fool (How it turned out) makes more sense.

Now again, for the record, i really didn't like The Turn for many reasons. It sounded contrived and derivative. An attempt to sound like Live with Ed...without Ed. More karaoke than an honest outlet of a band with a hunger to make something new in their own way. The fact they even re-did some old songs with Chris really made them look childish and spiteful. Not even talking about the shit surrounding that collaboration. THAT was childish.

As for TGF, which did have some nice tunes and Kevin did have his own style and manner of deliverance. It just wasn't for me. They went with another name, which really was a good move though.

It isn't a matter of Ed vs the rest. I can be critical of Ed and have been before on this board. It seems like people know how shit went down and moved a bit to the middle. This board is less anti-Ed than it used to be. lol.gif <-crap, i did it again...

When you meet the guy(Ed), he is the nicest bloke you can meet. In the media he can be bit of a douche. The rest of the band (mainly CT and CG) have proven to be inconsistent and spiteful as well. Maybe even disingenuous. But hey, we all have flaws and that's ok.

As for the new EP, it really suffers from poor production. They really need to bring some people in. I don't know if they have money issues, but this is not the way to bring in some dough. It sounds like they are a starting band with an EP out trying to break through. Not like they were one of the biggest bands of the 90's. Must be really hard for them.

QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Oct 14 2018, 2:37 pm) *

New things lyrically? Let me quote myself since that's what Ed seems to do:
It is a totally fair criticism to say that Ed has become lazy as a writer. He doesn't critically review his own work or challenge himself to go outside of his comfort zone when writing.

TBF He's pretty much run out of elements to sing about. Most of the time it's water, but he's dabbled in fire (Meltdown, Supernatural fire, etc), Earth (Good Pain, MEiaCV), and even a little bit of air (10000 years and TDC). I mean... what else is there to sing beyond that? wiggle.gif

Exactly right. It's about time Ed forgot about the classical elements and started on the Periodic Table, there's 118 of those.

He could sing about Fluorine, Xenon, Dysprosium, it's a huge untapped lyrical well, and as long as he steers clear of Hydrogen and Oxygen, it could be 12 or 13 Live albums before he starts to repeat himself.

The reason why you're not seeing much anti-Ed rhetoric these days is because there isn't much left to say. The EP and new music is THAT bad.

It's cause Chad decided to be friends with Ed, and the anti-Ed rhetoric only came from those harbored deep within Chad's ass

Maybe Ed can get some inspiration from a song called "The Elements" as featured on 'Better Call Saul' a few weeks ago. lol.gif

Do you think CT or anyone from the band comes here and just gets mad that we don't "get" the new songs, or do you think he's like "they are so right, we just put out a big steaming pile"?

The only silver lining of this is I really have underestimated The Turn. It really is a decent album. And it will forever be forgotten. facepalm.gif

To me, this EP shows that Live can make music ranging from garbage (Waterfall), to mediocre (Love Lounge) to a salad bar (Be a giver, man) and to really good (Brother). If Brother was not on that EP i would leave for good.

The hiatus finally gave me a sense of peace in knowing that CCP said that SFBM was rubbish and they're also on the record for trashing Ed's solo work. They know damn well that this EP is trash.

Ed is needed for them to tour so they will promote the new stuff and will try to milk this as long as possible. They won't rock the boat and will just concede to whatever he wants (Zac and Diaz).

Zac and Eddie made an EP. That should've been the title.

The Turn showed they still can make good music. Sprinkle in some Ed and it all goes down the toilet.

Of course, I'm hoping they find that magic again as a band, but this EP has set the bar very low for my expectations. Since they never refresh their setlist with Ed I have no desire to see them ever again in concert.

I can't tell anyone what to think or feel about the music but I don't get this statement. Unless someone was planning on traveling from stop to stop on tour with them why would anyone care what they are playing at other shows?

If Live is on the summer concert series list at a local venue I'll be there. Bands typically stop in locally once a year if you are lucky.

I love their catalogue and they are great in concert. I'm not worried about online setlist posts from shows they are doing in Georgia weeks before. I'll enjoy the show I get to see.
