Another thing about TDTH.

Let's make a new topic out of this, as I find it very interesting diving into TDTH again after all these years. But this is not the right thread if those interpretations have no conenction to SC smile.gif
Should it be shortened to SC anyway? I completely forgot about Simple Creed lol.gif

Yeah, I really don't see SC as a break up song either. Especially when you start diving into the lyrics that are harder to hear the first couple of listens.

I didn't want to get too off topic from Sirens but since the thread had kind of went into a lyrical interpretation theme I just went with it haha.

Go ahead and start a thread up. I will participate, for now I should probably get back to working! boo

Main lyrics:

-I count the ways that you turned me on

-I count the days since we went wrong

-I contemplate a world where you're gone

Definite break up song.

Please don’t tell me why i feel how i feel. SC has nothing to do with TDTH, it is better than most song off that album, hands down. To think that SC is comparable with Sun and Dance with You, well i have no words.

It is louder I will give it that. The one thing new Live doesn't have is a distinctive voice fronting it. Whether you love or hate Ed's voice, it was always distinct and you knew the song was Live.

Chris Shinn's voice is super generic, and sounds like a lot of other rock/metal bands.

Yeah, because artists don't have the tool named personification, to make abstract themes more human.
Of course it's a break up song of kinds, because it's about letting go of something. If you break it down it's about human nature, about weakness. You can break everything down to a point where it isn't original anymore and you are finally able to compare it to weaker attempts at that topic. You let the lyrics to the song sound as if it's about my girlfried who I've just met and she broke my heart, boohoo stuff. It's definately not that, but you rate the lyrics because of that interpretation you make.
My point is, that it doesn't seem fair, because the execution of the topic through the myth theme flows very well with the music without being too direct and being too abstract. The song let's you immerse into the topic and that's not something you can say about a lot of other songs.

If you don't see any other interpretation, then they're boring lyrics for you. It just seems, that you make it easy for yourself, according to your last post ... which isn't bad, because I do this all the time. But you have to be ready if someone is calling you out on it on a message board which is about that stuff.

Please don't exaggerate. Listen to Unified Theory and tell me any other band with a voice like this. Ed's voice is more distintinct, that's no question. But super generic? Come on.
This kind of confrontation through black and white arguments is what keeps the fighting going on. About nothing.

I wouldn't say Siren's call is a "definite" break up song but everyone is free to associate their own meaning to the lyrics. I think the song is more about being hopelessly drawn to something sweet that is bad for you, like a siren http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siren_%28mythology%29. I think an integral part of the song is that you can't break apart from it.

"I can hear the Siren's calling.
Save myself...I can't my darling."

I would say that Cheetah is a "definite" breakup song.

"we're breaking up
we're breaking up
we're breaking up
Cheetah"

Whatever Chris' voice is it fits well with the song. Ed's voice was fantastic in the 1990s but I did not like it at all in the 2000s. However, I don't think that it is Ed's voice that made Live distinct, but the raw, heavy and melodic sound which we did not hear from any other band, this is what Siren's Call is as well. Like it or not the sound of Live is back, the voice is different but it fits nicely.

Most CCP fans are going to like this song, and really for you that is all that matters.

you guys can take this FWIW, but ... I signed up for this message board because I wanted to discuss TGF and partake in the great discussions, which I did for over a year. Then I left the board only checking in once every few months or so. I liked LIVE back in high school and bought TC, SS and TDTH. Saw them twice in 2000 on tour w/ Local H. Great shows...

but the material post TDTH never did anything for me. I stopped listening to LIVE, and only played the older records when I was in the mood for them. This is the first time in 15 years Im excited about a new LIVE record. I dont care what people say about the single, "The Way Around Is Through" (generic, Shinn's voice, etc), but thats a solid rock song. So is "Siren's Call". Very excited to hear this full thing.

and new TGF in 2015, 2016? I have hope, but most of it has gone out the window.

Would be nice to hear what both sides say about the other side's work. Now I don't think they would say that what they do is bad, but when I met CCP last summer, there's clearly still some anger about the breakup. So for the people who want a reunion, we are definitely not there. And it's for the best.

What did CCP say or do that indicated anger? What kind of meeting was it?
