Okay - gave it a few listens. Overall, good. The music is more Live-esque than any of us have heard since 1999. The lyrics need more variety - too repetitive too early. Not as poetic as we're used to from 90s Live.

But I'd put it in the top 5 Live songs from 2001 on. I don't see it fitting in with anything in the 90s, though. Not even TDTH. It just doesn't have that... magical element that has always put Live over the top for me.

I really like the song, best Live song in the past 10 years for me.
Anyway, it's very different from the Live we used to know, but the guys have moved on.
I really like the direction the band is going.
Very different, but really not bad!

very enjoyable..im not going to compare to first 4 live cd's, because nothing compares, but a step up from most of BOP (not including She, Lighthouse and Rivertown) , and all of SFMB

I listened without comparing to Live, as though it's a single from "some new rock band." I love the beginning and I love the melody & "The Only Way Around Is Through" is catchy/sticks in your head. Buuuuut, I can't help from thinking that it would sound SO much better sung by a stronger vocalist. No, I'm not saying this because I've experienced the pain of Shinn ruining my favorite Live songs. Just basing this observation on listening to this song only. The vocals are so weak and thin. I wish they hadn't decided on C.S. I've heard better rock singers on American Idol. (How about that kid that just won this past season belting out those Whitesnake covers). Yea, yea, I know he's young, but shit, there's just so much more out there to choose from. shrug.gif

Intro wasn't bad, but for me the vocals just aren't good. A very forgettable track. No way does this song compare to classic Live in any way.

It also doesn't compare to anything Ed has put out in his solo career......... that is because this is 100 times better then anything Ed can even imagine about producing these days. It's called rock and roll, look it up..... >>><

I disagree with that statement. I think for Live, it is a very underwhelming comeback song with weak vocals and lyrics.

That right there sums it up for me, including the "Buuuuut". With or without comparing it to 90s Live, the lyrics need help. I think the vocals are okay. I happen to like that sound. I think the intro is flat-out awesome.

As far as putting this in the context of Live's history - they set the bar sooooo high back in the day. The farther away we get from those days, the more I realize that they set a really high bar.

CCP sound like they're still there, based on the instrumentals to the new song. Whatever creative brilliance that gripped gripped Ed in the 90s I wish would come back. I gave TDTH a listen yesterday for the first time in a long time, and GOD I miss that.

Completely agree. Ed's "music" has been forgettable for a long time. This is good stuff.

Chris indeed sounds like Ed at times. The song is good, one of the best since TDTH. It sounds different from TC and SS but it is good. I am not sure why they chose this to be the first single, usually bands choose their strongest, unless Lives wants to make some noise before they release a better song.

Solid first taste of the new album. Production and vibe very reminiscent of TDTH. Surprised no one has mentioned the (blatant?) TDAOC-style intro and outro...

The outro is exactly the same, they put the TC tape at the end and mixed it in. Not as clear in the intro though.

Problems with Live-haters is that if Ed would have come with the EXACT same song, really done the same way, they would call it genius.

I'm not saying TWAIT is perfect, but it's still one of the best song we got in the last 15 years. So i can enjoy it.

The door swings both ways on your second comment. Either way, I feel it is a very underwhelming lead single for a once popular band trying to make a comeback with a new singer.
