QUOTE(pizan0 @ Mar 30 2012, 9:29 pm) *

I don't think I've posted since the first big show, but I've been following like crazy. Still digesting everything I guess. Certainly strange to have another singer around, but Shinn does a fantastic job with these songs for the most part. I am thrilled that they pulled out TDAOC because that is easily one of my favorite Live songs of all time --- what a passionate, intense, yet beautiful song! As far as the re-recordings on the F4L, Shinn brings back that raw quality in Ed's early Live material that drew me to the band (along with the simple, raw music itself of course). He does extremely well with AOY, STD, and I was really particularly impressed with I Alone! Wow, that song has fucking intensity again!! I found myself doing some serious, god damn air drums again, lol. I think LC is decent too, but (and I'm curious to see if anyone agrees with me) I feel that out of the 4 songs up there so far, LC needs the most work.

All in all, though, I'm so damn excited again for these guys. The reason we are so passionate and upset with Ed is because all the true fans know well what this band could do in its hey-day. The songs brought you to another place; they truly transcended all the good and bad things in life. There was always a Live song that was right for whatever moment I found myself in. And finally, even though its not the original 4, we have CCP (+C) playing once again with the passion that made us fall so hard for this band. God bless 'em, even though I'm excited to hear the old songs in concert, I am actually more excited for the new music! rockin.gif

Not me, although I do see your point.

What makes me utterly DISGUSTED with Mr K, is how I was led to believe one thing by his writnting, then shown the complete opposite when his true colors finally showed themselves. I can point out so many lyrics that man wrote, that COMPLETELY fucking contradict his actions over the past few years.

I think the song "The Ride" sums it up best. Where he sings, "in the west, we think we're the best, we've shown the world that money is all we care for now." And he sings it like he questions it. Like he's disappointed by it. And in the end, money sure as fuck had a lot to do with everything that went down.

I have no tolerance and absolutely no respect for people who preach one thing, then turn around and do the opposite........to the people they love to top it all off. It made me sick to my stomach and still does. I can't even stand seeing his face nowadays. I found love, comfort and spiritual well being through what that man wrote once upon a time. I admired the questions he posed and the aura of love and peace he once exuded.

To see that turn into a guy selling coffee and pendants at ripoff prices and peddling the existence of his children for profit to be fucking profanely disgusting. For one day way back, to speak of his family IN ANY WAY was expressly forbidden. Live were at their peak of popularity then and money was abundant. Selling out HUGE venues and commanding huge money for performances. Money was no issue and his PRIVACY was to be respected with utter vigilance.

But wait!! The tides turn. His music is frowned upon and the venues are now small, commanding a third for a performance than was paid for their services just a few years back. Fuck privacy now HUH? "Here's my kids!! See how cute they are?? PAY UP."

Fucking sellout and in the most dastardly of ways. Anything for that almighty dollar now right? Even your lifelong friends, the people who brought you in and helped get you there, they're expendable now too. True colors always end up showing themselves and to me? One of the most scathing and blatant displays of hypocrisy I've ever seen. Now he's in with a new crowd. Lets see what his lack of ethical fortitude puts on display for us in the years to come. As you can see, it has already attracted people like Nick.......and I think that speaks for itself, the icing on the cake if you will.

Eddie Kowalczyk is the lead singer for the band Live. He counts among his influences the writer Jiddu Krishnamurti and integral thinker Ken Wilber, and his lyrics reflect his mystical and spiritual tendency. He has influenced bands such as Daughtry, Matchbox Twenty and Breaking Benjamin.

QUOTE
"Almost my whole life I've been searching for peace and truth outside myself. In books, in paintings, in other people. Now I've found peace and truth in places I never expected to find them. Indeed, like enjoying a sunset. What has made a big difference is that I've moved with my family from the big city to the countryside. Now I live in the middle of nature. The trees and animals around me give me the feeling that I've returned to earth. And then my fatherhood was added as well. The birth of our child was such an overwhelming experience for me that I can now easily put things into perspective, even those I used to get tensed up with.

I have chosen, with a spiritual practice, to deepen my understanding of my relationship to everything that is arising, and not just to go with the flow. And that is the essence of the music of Live, really, this sort of dissatisfaction with the way things are, with the limitation that just “going with the flow” represents.

What I've been feeling about reincarnation lately is that life itself is evidence of no beginning and no end. If it's really over when it's over, then what are we doing here? I remember as a very young child hearing about the Big Bang and thinking it was bullshit. How could anything come from nothing?

The Western idea of spirituality has always been that you have to be absolutely disassociated from the vital areas of life—give all your material possessions away, find the guru, and live happily ever after in a monastery. Or maybe do yoga once a week to feel better bodily. That's our notion of "spirituality" and it's pretty fucked. It's really just not the case. Our lives are fully integrated. We're incarnated in these physical bodies, and spirituality is essentially about allowing the forces of the divine to descend fully into the body, rather than us ascending out of the body with the intention to go somewhere else. So every moment is an opportunity to confront and transcend our limitations. Being onstage is an intensification of that, with all this incredible energy being created by the band and the audience flying around like bullets from an AK-47. There's so much energy that you have to conduct it somehow. And that in turn benefits the music.

was this published prior to mid 2009? I wonder what Krishnamurti said to Ed when then met?

I am in the camp that his search was the almighty $$, but once upon a time it was true to the 4 of the band!!

But this thread is about the new songs and the Shinn re-records!!! It's about the collaboration you see!!!

Ed's never met Jiddu Krishnamurti - he died in 1986.

Ed was involved with Ken Wilbur and Integral Naked from at least 2006 so that bio would have been written around then.

Thanks much for that! I listened to them on my way into work this morning. Kind of torn. I like them, but I still think they'r better with Ed. Maybe it's just from hearing the regular cuts for so long.

Better with the original Ed of the 90's? Sure. Better with today's bizzaro Ed? No way.

Digging through the archives and came across these which I'd completely forgotten about! Not sure they got their own thread in the Multimedia section; if not I think they should because they're excellent.
