Well, neither you or I would call it rock...I think they're just putting it in a general category cause its not rap pop country or electronic.

I've listened to the album a half dozen times now and find it to be patchy, yet still the best of Ed's solo releases. I really wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I do, because I thought the Garden EP was balls.

When the opening track of TFATM gave me a chorus sounding very familiar to the title track of the Garden, I thought great, more of the same. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find only three songs on the album I couldn't get into: The One, Holy Water Tears and Cornerstone.

I particularly dislike Holy Water Tears. It sounds like a Roxette outtake. Grade school poetry and a chorus which doesn't grab. I'd probably rate Cornerstone worse, but as I can't listen to that song all the way through, I'll reserve that judgement.

Highlights on the album for me are: Seven, Parasite, Angels on a Razor and Take Me Back. Ed's voice is sounding very good too across all tracks. I'm hoping an Aussie tour is on the horizon so I can enjoy these tunes in concert.

Why oh why do yo people insist on trying to tell us what we will or won't like? I mean, who the the fuck are you to say that i can't say i love the whole album from start to finish?
Serously, shut the fuck up already. THERE is aWAY i can say i love it from start to finish.
There, i just said it.
See? Jeeshhhh, stop telling people what they will or will not like. aggressive.gif

It's callind evolving. The man is not the same as he was in the 90's...it's called growing and changing...fine , don't like it but don't fucking tell me there is no way i can or will.

What do you mean "yo people"? Is that a racial comment or are you trying to lump me in with people that I don't represent?

My name is next to my post, I speak for myself, and I stand by it.

As I said previously "IMO" this album sucks. Yes, "IMO" Alive and The Garden are better. The Flood is a huge disappointment and "IMO" I don't see how anyone can l say it's an improvement or say it is good from start to finish.

QUOTE(Arizona_Skies @ Sep 23 2013, 5:43 pm) *

I think he meant there's no way a LIVE fan could listen to it and like it. Btw, I'm an Ed fan and I think it pretty much sucks (except for like 3 songs). It's rock music for a dental office, way to go Ed!

No - I'm not speaking from the perspective of a Live fan. I'm straight up saying this sucks CD sucks for Ed and sucks period.

There are a few decent songs that I would consider album filler. That is exactly what I said and what I meant - for any album.

QUOTE(Live4Life @ Sep 15 2013, 2:37 pm) *

This cd just shows how much he has evolved and that he did indeed have it in him to write some more great songs.

I'm not jumping down you're throat when you're trying to tell me that this shit don't stink and that in you're opinion Ed is improving. This is an open forum, not an Ed love fest!

Live4Life - If you take my opinions personally then maybe you need to check yourself!

But at the end of Holy Water Tears Ed has totally mastered his "la da da da's".... lol...much better than The River's la da da's......actually I find the tail end of that song to be catchy.

Hood, I am not taking anything personally. I am not "trying"to tell you anything.

I do not think it stinks.
And yes, i do think Ed has improved.
You're saying you don't see how anyone can say that? Why can't i say it?
It's my opinion. People can and will say it because they CAN.
We just have dif opinions. Nothing more. Get a grip dude.
I lump you in because you are part of the WD clan and most of you are like broken records.
Same thing over and over and over... lol.gif

Anyways, it's not like I'm blindly coming on here to rip Ed. I actually provided specific reasons for my opinion and they are directly comparing Ed's previous work to his current album (not anything related to Live):

QUOTE(Hoodstock @ Sep 21 2013, 8:40 pm) *

IMO Alive has songs more songs that are listenable:

The Great Beyond
Grace
Stand
Zion
Just In Time
A New World

Vs.

The One
Seven
Parasite
All That I Wanted

According to me that's a 6 to 4 ratio of good songs. On top of that, if I ranked those ten songs from best to worse there would not be a single Flood song that cracked the top 5.

In addition to that I'd also add that out of the 5 non-remix songs on The Garden 4 of the songs (excluding I'm The Proof) are also better than anything on his new album.

So yes, to me it's a huge disappointment.

No, IMO I don't see how anyone could disagree.

Getting into the album, there are actually a lot of catchy riffs and tunes. Yes, it is great that Ed has gone away from the falsetto.

Unfortunately sound can only carry a song so far. As he did on bad songs on Alive, and also with I'm The Proof, Ed just completely ruins songs with uninspired lyrical garbage.

On top of the genuinely bad lyrics he also repeatedly goes back to the same wells that he's been fishing out of for decades with more references to the common standby's like Water, Children, and "The One".

The combination of the horrible, uninspired lyrics added to the next regurgitation of his old cliche's are the biggest disappointment to me.

Looking at the lead track "The One". This reminds me of Zion (although not quite as good). Ed had this fascination with throwing Zion into later songs until he finally just wrote a song with it as the title. It's the same as The One. For those that don't remember "The One" is referred to in songs like Top, They Stood Up For Love, and Every Time I See Your Face. This is actually one of the better songs on the album, but he could have done way better by doing something original.

Examining lyrics - Actually taking just the second verse of one of the good songs, Parasite, as an example of how bad this is.

QUOTE(Live4Life @ Sep 13 2013, 8:27 pm) *

[b]PARASITE

************
Big Mouth
Little heart
Talk so loud, think you're smart
You're just a bag of guts
And nothin' but
The door is shut
This wall ain't comin' down.....
************

Everyone can see what Ed is doing here. I would assume this song would have had some passion, emotion, and thought behind it. This song is years in the making with decades of history behind it.

Referring to the Parasite as a "bag of guts and nothin" - c'mon. Seriously - Where is the inspiration?? With what's behind that song that is seriously the best lyrical assault that he could come up with. "Bag of guts" - Whoooo - Ed is pissed!

Someone in a middle school band could be more creative.

This is evident throughout any song on this album, whether it be a listenable song or not.

If anyone wants to disagree with specific examples on how I rank songs from this album against Alive and The Garden, or why you think it is better than them, please feel free. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
