Mate, you're in this industry yourself. Of course you know that it takes loads of time and loads of money to get these things out, I mean, releasing etc. Takes even more when you have Live, Cbox and business going on at the same time and loadsa shit to sort out in your families etc. I bet you know what I mean

To each their own of course, but did you catch one of the live shows? "Uninspired" is the last word I'd use. Those guys were incredibly inspired when they made and performed that album, it was very evident from watching them and talking with them about it.

Maybe unoriginal would be a better word choice? That would certainly be fair. Or perhaps that the album wasn't as raw as it should have been (the overall sound was more radio rock than raw, classic, grunge).

I did not catch one of their live shows. They came through town, but I just really didnt care for the music to go (and I do see a lot of live music). Perhaps unoriginal is a better term than uninspired. I am sure they performed the music well. I just think that CCP are capable of a whole lot more, musically. I feel guilty saying anything negative about the boys, but at the same time I think they are capable of much more.

I do, I'm just saying it's different than waiting for them to write and record a whole new album. That should always be the longest part of the process.

When they put out "Great Houses" I figured we'd see more free releases of that nature as a way to keep fans interested while the band was busy with other projects.

ThrowgnCpr, wow. Pretty interesting to read such a response. I would not call it "uninspired". You never know what inspires the musicians when they record their music and what does not.

I mean, it is a brilliant work, but of course I understand there are some people who did not enjoy it. I hope the upcoming Live record will be for you what yu are talking of, that "capable of more" part, you know?

However, if TGF were in my area (which is impossible for sure)I would def drop in even if I did not like the CD (which I love) just to show my respect to the guys.

Anyway, I do not remember if I said it, I must have, but anyway, TGF was the first CD that I played in my car smile.gif

true.

But most of the fans came from Live and Cbox evidently. So we all are pretty much aware that the bands are busy right now to accidentally hop back to TGF. Me, as a fan, is remaining interested. And I can wait.

and I think they could keep the songs they could give away for free to be well-built and structured to form an album, not separate tunes

They added a lot to the music in the live show (better solos, the bluesy acoustic set, new parts of the songs). Checking it out may have increased your enjoyment of the album as I really enjoy it more live than I did on record. At the end of the day if you don't like it you don't like it, I'd just encourage you to give the live show a go if it happens again. At the time, it was just a hell of a lot of fun to see the guys from Live play something that didn't make me want to vomit. lol.gif

That's true. I guess I'm so used to not having proper albums anymore that I don't even think about it.

Everybody has different tastes. I can understand when someone says they really like this album, or they don't like it. That's just how it goes. There are a lot of albums I really like, but I don't consider them to be great pieces of music. Some things just connect with you, you know? I can see that this would be one of them.

Calling this album "brilliant" is a giant leap though. What else do you consider brilliant?

not trying to start an argument here, just enjoying talking about music smile.gif

You know, there diferent sides to brilliance. Brilliant to me can be the 311 blue album, Revolver by the Beatles, Edge Of Forever by Lynyrd Skynyrd and TGF along with Alter Bridge III for instance.

Pokes may hop in and add some Gaga to the "brilliance" banana.gif

And he will be very right to do so.

You know, when I heard Honest Man for the first time, it blew my mind SO hard there was no way back. I remember hearing a lousy live version of it with Kevin saying that this one was dedicated to Gracey;s dad who had passed away before TGF got together and just at the second I got shivers hearing that, the drums came in and the riff started slamming.

That very moment I understood that the song would become one of my faves. Like, all-time faves yanno.

at the same time I find it interesting people are so much into Tredecim, which is my least fave on the album.

But as a whole TGF ranks among the best albums of all time in my chart. And I can say if it had not been for CCP and Kevin with Sean (btw I only started getting into Cbox AFTER TGF), I would def enjoy the music as well, as it is plain perfect.

But now that CCP are there, i of course enjoy it even more happy.gif

Thanks for elaborating. It's always nice to see what moves people musically. I honestly think that the album isn't that great, but I enjoy these discussions. Much better than the typical:

OMG Y LIVE HAS NEW SINGER? ED ONLY. YOU SUCK.

which seems to be typical outside of this board, and to some extent with a few individuals on this board.

I know you aren't responding to me, but I can at least say that there are a few parts of the TGF album that I find to be particularly remarkable. They are:

1. The structure of "Honest Man" - Just a perfectly executed song where everything fits perfectly and everything comes together just like it should.

2. The drum part of "The Few" - I still can't figure out how to play the fucking thing. angry.gif

3. KM's vocal performance - I understand not digging his voice, it's an acquired taste for sure, but he really put his balls into this album and stretched himself vocally. I honestly didn't think he had anywhere else to take his vocal style but I was wrong.

I'm sure I could think of some other things, but those are my favorite things about the album. There are a few songs that I really just don't like at all, and there are some mediocre tracks, but to me when they hit all of the right cylinders they make some of the best rock songs I've heard in recent years.

I dunno man, I really like EPs. That's why we keep putting them out. smile.gif Removes the pressure of having to have 10-11 songs (which leads to filler tracks) and let's face it, most albums don't mean anything as a whole anymore.

I say that but I freaking concept albums and the like, I just don't find it to be a necessity anymore. Hell, old albums used to be 7-8 songs and that's it.

are you a drummer? this isn't actually a difficult beat. (I've been playing for about 12 years or so). Not dissing it though, it is a cool beat - often some of the best drum parts are simplistic.
