He wasn't making a comparison to Creed.

He was just saying that a band like Creed would have too many egos to appear on a show like American Idol.

That is very true.

Yea, I understood that a bit later. blush.gif
But still to even mention Creed with Live is a tragedy!

I gotta say, this bothers me a little bit. Ed is not Live. Ed is one of the guys in Live. Live is a band. Not a guy. I know some of their more recent videos prove me wrong, but it's not Ed & The Boys. It's Live. bomb.gif

I see what you're saying (and I thing we all feel that way), but I think what he was saying is that you couldn't plug in another lead singer and have it be the same band... Plus, Ed writes most of the songs. But, Live wouldn't be Live without Ed...or Chad...or Pat...or Chad.

A review in the Washington Post - the part pertaining to Live:

"Next, Chris Daughtry sings with his favorite band, Live. Remember when he aped Live's cover of the Johnny Cash classic "Walk the Line" and the judges complimented him for making the Cash tune "his own"? Good times.

Standing next to Live lead Ed Kowalczyk singing "Mystery," Daughtry looks like one of those Here's How to Get the Look for Under $100 models. He looked exactly like the Live Lead -- a Live Lead Look-Alike -- only less."

Also, these stats in another of the washingtonpost.com articles which indicates how many viewers saw Live perform with Chris:

"More than 36 million viewers watched Fox's badtastic "American Idol" finale Wednesday night, in which Taylor Hicks was crowned winner of the singing competition.

That's the largest audience ever for an "Idol" mop-up night, and Fox's highest-rated night ever with entertainment programming.

More 18-to-49-year-olds watched the "Idol" finale than watched the Academy Awards in March. But for sheer train-wreck entertainment value, how can Jon Stewart dying in a room full of self-absorbed Hollywooders hope to compare with the sight of Mary J. Blige swatting away her duet partner, or Toni Braxton writhing like a cat in heat while singing "In the Ghetto" -- plus Prince?

Among viewers of all ages, only three broadcasts have clocked larger crowds this season: the Super Bowl (90.8 million viewers), the Oscars (38.9 million) and the post-Super Bowl episode of "Grey's Anatomy" (37.8 million)."

This was funny, too. It was in nj.com, The New Jersey Ledger.

8:14: Chris Daughtry performs with his favorite band, Live, whose cover of "Walk the Line" he used on'50s Night. He looks and sounds like a miniature version of Live singer Ed Kowalczyk; maybe they can bring him on tour in a case that reads, "In case of frontman emergency, break glass."

This on biz.yahoo.com:

LOS ANGELES, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Live from the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. the American Idol 5 season finale blew fans away with a surprise collaboration between the multi-Platinum rock band Live and Idol fan favorite Chris Daughtry. As a huge fan of Live, Daughtry asked the band to join him on stage for the season finale in a surprise performance of Live's current single "Mystery" from their new album Songs From Black Mountain. Available now digitally for download, Songs From Black Mountain will hit stores June 6th.

American Idol viewers may remember the controversy earlier in the season when Daughtry performed a strikingly similar rendition of Live's 2001 cover of the Johnny Cash classic "I Walk the Line." As the criticism grew, Live lead singer Ed Kowalczyk praised Daughtry saying, "I thought he did a great job with the song. There's no doubt he's a talented performer and I hope he goes far." Lending further support, Kowalczyk contacted Daughtry directly and a mentorship was born.

Ed comments on his performance with Chris:

Richmond, VA Times-Dispatch
May 26, 2006

A couple of months ago, when we interviewed Chris Daughtry, he talked about his adoration of the band Live and its lead singer, Ed Kowalczyk, who happens to bear a striking hairless resemblance.

Wednesday night, semifresh from his duet of "Mystery" with Daughtry, Kowalczyk talked about his own admiration for the fledgling rocker -- even casting votes for him during the competition, although his mom was a Taylor Hicks fan.

"It's a bald-headed thing. We have to stick together," said Kowalczyk, referring to both singers' chrome domes.

"It was a blast to perform with him," said the singer, adding that he has a feeling that Daughtry has a depth and a lot to say that didn't come out on the show.

This is my first post on this board. I joined tonight because of the Daughtry/Live live performance on AI and how excited I was to see and hear it again thanks to your site's providing a downloadable version.

I've been a Live fan since the first time I heard "Lightning Crashes." The band's sound is unmistakeable and Ed's voice is one of the most distinctive and fluid I've ever heard. Since hearing Chris Daughtry, I've become a big fan of his as well (not to mention the fact that he's from North Carolina, as I am) smile.gif

I was so blown away when Live actually agreed to appear on AI to sing with Chris that when they started to play, I started grinning so hard my face hurt! And didn't stop till the end of the song.

I agree with whoever said that Live's appearance brought credibility to AI. Live lost nothing in appearing. On the contrary, they showed me their fundamental integrity and their respect for the dreams of others. Their appearance was a total gift to Chris. (And also to the many AI fans who may not have heard of Live and who are now going to be on the lookout for them!)

I'm speaking from too many decades of music listening. I'm going to be 57 in July and I've listened to rock and roll since the early 1950s! My tastes have only grown -- from my early favorites (the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly) to my 60s bands (the Byrds, Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane), the 70's bands (Aerosmith, Jeff Beck, Led Zeppelin, the Who), the 80s groups (Bon Jovi, Motley Crue) all the way up to the bands of the last 16 years, including Live, Collective Soul, Foo Fighters, Chili Peppers). Along the way, I've also grown to appreciate other forms of music -- some country, some jazz. Some of the bands I've liked have been huge popular successes, others have been critically superb but never had the popular fan base.

I'm thrilled when a band that is as good as Live gets more and more exposure -- and, in this case, does it in the process of granting a wish!

I guess what I want to say is that Chris Daughtry and Live were a great pairing, and I know that Chris learned a lot from it and I think that Ed and the rest of the band enjoyed giving Chris such a rare opportunity.

Long live Live!

QUOTE(zmanpga @ May 25 2006, 9:40 pm) *

nice reply....I hope Chris makes it also...but ED is LIVE...and there will only ever be ..one ED....

I will check out your site...

I wouldn't want ANOTHER ED. I love the one there is wink.gif I think the influence definitely shows if you listen to the lyrics from Absent Element. Different, but still the same soulful, hearfelt, spiritual feel. That's what drew me to Absent Element in the first place. Chris is a very spiritual person as Ed is. I think they'd be AMAZING if either were to appear as guest vocals for the other's band. They mesh well together, and the mutual respect is still giving me goosebumps this morning.

Thanks for checking Absent Element out...... keep in mind everything they have right now is self produced and done with donations for studio time... but the raw talent is SOOOO there. With a good producer, these guys could be on the path Live was on so many years ago. At least I hope so. rockin.gif

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how tall Ed is?

The first time I saw him up close in concert I got the impression that he was relatively short in stature (not that there's ANYTHING wrong with that - compared to the rest of my family, I'm "vertically impared" myself). However, during that AI performance, he made Chris look like Mini-Me... So unless Chris is 5'3, Ed must be a lot taller than I thought.

laugh.gif I don't know exactly how tall he is, but I did notice that he was wearing boots... with a bit of a high heel...hehe...... which probably made him a few inches taller! lol.gif

*edit*
(And don't get me wrong.. I LOVE boots, also on Ed, I think he looked great! tongue.gif )

Very nice pic also, thanks for posting!

Hehehe – that one is funny. I’ve always thought Chris was relatively attractive, but next to Ed, Chris looked puny and pasty…almost sickly. Ed looked hot, actually - all tan (compared to Chris, anyway) and clean-shaven. Ed definitely came out ahead on that match up!

I really like the hairless thing he’s working right now… I would imagine that it’s nice not to have body hair when you’re on stage running around sweating under all those lights. cool.gif
