It was a festival crowd and I am guessing that aside from the ladies from www.edkcommunity.nl most people in that crowd weren't there solely for "the EK".

Good point

When I talk about the "40+ house wife" crowd being the main demographic for Ed I am referring to his music becoming softer and more appealing to them, including ones that were not aware of who Live was.

Would you ever think SS or TC era Live would show up on the Ellen show? Hell no. But I bet you a great number of "40+ house wives" heard Heaven and Run Away and went and bought BoP. Now they blindly follow Ed and probably hate CCP because they don't know anything except BoP and everything after.

I hope some bought MJ, TC, SS and either discovered the real Live or shit themselves because it wasn't at all like Heaven. Or both.

Maybe, I dunno.
I've only my own personal experience to call on and it was the reverse for me. Heard LC at 46 (no, I wasn't living under a rock...I blame my husband, LIVE was big during the time I first met him, he distracted me) and bought MJ, TC,SS and TDTH cd's. I've not even bothered to buy anything that came after or any of Ed's solo music. And I'm soooo looking forward to nuLive.....

The funny part that I see here is that the 40+ house wives crowd are the ones that would have been the original Live fans. They've grown up, and likely have softer tastes than when they were in high school / college, knew eveything about everything, and loved 90's alt-rock. IMHO, I highly doubt Ed has picked up much of a following from anything done beyond TDTH. Same for CCP.

I dont care who follows them. And I wish them Kudos to all the guys for doing what they want and giving us music to enjoy.

For the record, I'm in my late 30's. I dont give a flip who is at show I attend, other than who is on stage. That doesnt mean that I dont feel a little out of place when I'm the old guy at a show surrounded by a bunch of punk 'kids' though. Circle of life.

Just to be clear, I have nothing against 45 year old women. In fact, they are quite delish usually.

What I was trying to say is that what is left over of the Ed concert crowd are the older women who are actually entertained by his stage antics, such as his strip-tease, and his terrible music. It's clear when you look at these images of the fans at his shows, don't you think?

I don't subscribe to this at all. There is no natural law that states that as you age you have to begin to like soft rock or adult contemporary or whatever you want to call it. It's not as if Live was hard core punk or death metal. It may help to be youthful to appreciate Live's early music but you don't have to be a 20 something punk to appreciate good alternative rock music with a message. If anything, their music was complex enough that it appealed to even older fans back then.

I just don't get this theory that sees former rock music fans turning into aging fuddy duddies that would be more at place at the Dave Matthews Band show on the lawn with their picnic baskets and their goodies from Whole Foods. I can appreciate that but I'd prefer a good ass kicking rock show in a dingy club with some cheap draft beers followed by late night run to a greasy spoon resulting in a splitting headache and ringing ears the next morning. That's when I know I've seen a great rock show. In fact, I had one of those experiences not too long ago and I was talking about it for weeks. Doubt I'd have much to reminisce about from the EK experience.

Ok, see I read this and I think why is that a bad thing. Or are you saying it isn't a bad thing, just a matter of it is what it is.

People, people. Can't you see what's happening here? We are going to destroy ourselves from within with these arguments. Can't we all just agree that we all love women and we all hate Ed and move on?

Yep, it is what it is. What's left is a few strange dudes (won't name any names) and older gals flocking to see Ed strut his "goods".
