Bush were as derivative as any band has ever been... they were basically the Spice Girls of grunge.

Ok... maybe I was a bit harsh with that one. nervous.gif

QUOTE(Pokey @ May 22 2012, 2:26 pm) *

Seems like they're damned if they do and damned if they don't ... if they hadn't launched the website yet, released the re-records or done the 2 dress rehearsal shows you'd have half the board crying for blood because we've seen NOTHING yet. So they do those things, and people are still saying how long they have to wait.

Yeah the momentum is gone, but there was also no momentum right before all those things happened and then it was suddenly there, so what makes you think that when things are ready to kick into gear again that momentum won't come storming back again?

Funky is right, it shows they're not in it for the money, they're taking their time and they're being measured about it, personally I got so many other things going on in my life and other things to look forward to, I can't really imagine spending time and energy on getting frustrated over this ... we know it will happen, so it'll happen when it happens, and when it does all of this frustration will be a distant memory just like it was the day we were all on the edge of our seats as Dancing Queen tweeted us the live setlist from the York show.

Agreed 100%. I mean, people shouldn't forget that in addition to all of the real estate investing, music creating, and other general professional stuff they've got going on... they've also got families and their every day life going on at the same time. Just like everybody else. Just because we're not plastered with it 24/7 doesn't mean it isn't there. Trees really do fall in the forest if no one is around to hear it.

I don't suppose I should be so narcissistic to think that nothing happens, or makes a sound as it's happening, unless I'm there to witness it in some form or fashion. But ultimately I don't have a damn clue. shrug.gif

QUOTE(FishOutaWater @ May 22 2012, 5:12 pm) *

I think that is another good strategy. Wheter you call it a gimick or and angle or whatever. You just described a great one.

It would be amazing if they release a new album like Van Halen did, with Cheetah, Vine Street, Susquehanah, Hold Me Up and any other demos that I have forgotten from the Throwing Copper era, along with a bunch of new songs. Then they try to get as much press as they can that "Live has re-launched with a new lead singer and a new energy, and they are releasing an album on which they have re-recorded a number of previously unreleased gems from the Throwing Copper era as well as some amazing new tracks..." Go on Howard Stern and rock radio and see if they can get into Rolling Stone. Bang! Done. Just like that.

And start blogging on the website. Get some web traffic going there. Post videos from the studio. Do something unique and unexpected. And get some momentum giong and don't lose it.

Strategy or gimmick sounds like something that's cooked up in a board room somewhere. Minus the organic nature in which something like TC occurred it's a huge failure. Live may in fact be inspired to go to the places they need to create some new music that would stand up with the TC era tunes. CT said something a while back about reconnecting with MJ and TC. They may very well be doing exactly what you described. But it has to happen organically. They can't just sit down, say let's do this because it sounds like a good idea, and go off and record. It would never work. Wasn't that the supposed strategy of BOP? That didn't turn out too well. Obviously they weren't capable of getting into that organic space that produced TC. Of course, there were a lot of factors in play, just as there are now. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what's in store. I'm open to whatever comes our way. I think they are really working to deliver the best music they can, for the fans and for themselves.

I want the music to be made however it has to be made.
I'm not talking about the actual making of music.

I'm talking about the planning, release, promoting, touring, selling, playing (as far as when/where goes), destroying my eardrums with said music. do whatever vocal warmups or pot smoking or incense burning or rain dance whatever necessary to make the music.

but before unleashing it to the world, have a plan. a plan that takes FULL advantage of available media, concert venues/locations, tour partners... whatever. just a plan.

Instead of letting all of the opportunities to get great press slide through their fingers.

Great post and keeps everything in perspective. Family should always remain the focus then let everything else fall into place.

QUOTE(FishOutaWater @ May 22 2012, 1:25 pm) *

Luck is what happens when opportunity meets with preparedness.

I have been thinking about this statement and this is how I have always tried to live my life, and I think it is a good strategy for Live or anyone else who wants to succeed in business.

Luck is what happens when opportunity meets with preparedness. And opportunity is always there. So you need to stay open and receptive and identify the opportunities and you need to be prepared. The final piece to this puzzle is action. If you do that, you make your own luck. And once you have done the previous steps, take action! You have to take action. And in doing so, you will succeed in fullfilling any of your dreams.

sorry but i totally disagree with the majority here, Hold me Up can get Live back into the popular culture; original or re-recorded, its that fucking good. . I can still listen to that song and be moved and it really does rock. and look at all the youtube clips of the song from the movie, people from all over the place inquiring about it, becaUSE IT is a freaking good tune with a memorable melody. ! One sonfg is all it takes. everyones been talkng about gotye but really most people only know that one stupid song (good song but comon) like thats all it takes.!

I like Hold Me Up. I don't know if it will work miracles for the guys or not, but not knowing anything else they have in store for us, it feels like a good idea.

I didn't know that Gotye song until I saw you guys writing about it. I have listened about a dozen times in the last few days in an effort to learn to appreciate it. I hate it. I think it's awful. Is this being played on the radio? i don't hear it, but I usually listen to xpn (an independent station) and I have either missed them playing it, or they don't play it. and they play some pretty awful music sometimes.

anyway, if this shit song can become as popular as I believe it is, Hold Me Up could certainly put Live back on the map, because it's a hell of a lot more radio friendly than this song, and it is actually good. (Do people really like this song???)
