Well she is immensely popular right now and she is a big Live fan and I wanted to use that as an example of how Live show lean on their resources. Also, maybe it might increase the number of lesbians at Live concerts. I'm just saying....

If they are lesbians that either look like Ellen, or are the softball/field hockey playing types, I'm against that move.

For the record, I think that Ellen is a beautiful person inside and out and I would be thrilled to see a Live concert with her, Rosie, Rachel Maddow and anybody else who wants to be there.

I agree that a performance on Ellen would not be hard core rock n roll. I guess you have to be a woosified sell-out to gain any commercial traction these days.

I said Ellen because I know she's a fan and I know she's got a HUGE following. People pay attention to Ellen. Mostly middle aged women, yes, but also a tremendous amount of teenage girls (because Ellen does so much against bullying). I enjoy Ellen but I can how others don't but that doesn't matter.
exposure is exposure. they've been there before and they'd I'm sure be welcomed.

anyway, I just don't want to have to do what I always do - yes Fish same as you "you know, the band Live, they had that song Lightning Crashes *(then I have to sing Oh now I feel it comin back again)*..."

Ha ha! That is SO true! I always end up having to sing when I explain who Live is. I HATE that.

How does a band that sold that many albums and that many tickets and was the Billboard rock band of the year and killed on MTV and SNL and Rolling Stone get to the place where they are today, struggling for a little spot in the sunlight?

It goes like this.

Secret Samadhi was the anti-Throwing Copper. OK, they took a body blow from casual fans who gave up. TDTH was a good follow-up that hung on to what they had.

Then...

When was it when Ed wrestled creative control away from CCP again?

The Ellen Show would fit the same Live that sang Heaven, it doesn't fit the real Live. Like OTD said, Conan fits the real Live. Jimmy Kimmel also fits the real Live.

I agree. Ellen? Uggh. I guess I don't care where they play as long as the music is new, loud and it rocks. I want to feel the way I felt the first time I heard Stage (you know, kicked in the teeth). The quickest way they could burst my bubble is to come soft and ballad-like or sing LC again. I can hear the crowd now, "Gee, Ed sure looks different". They're going to have minimal opportunities on TV, they best bring it hard and loud. It's time to re-plant that LIVE flag. The best way to do that is to rock anew.

WAAAAAHAHAHAAAAAAA

Anyway, I am for ANY promotion available.

You know, yesterday Extreme had theis first ever show in Russia. They are one of my fave bands, just for the record, been listening to them since i was .. I dunno, 8?

Anyway, they did a nice promo. They visited a popular radiostation, then the most popular online TV channel and the last thing they did before the gig, they were on air on the most popular show. The show started only a couple of weeks ago and has immense ratings (or how do you call it when zounds of people view a show). It is an analogue of the Kimmel show and the host is one of the most popular, funny and talented guys in Russia. I love him. But his new show is horrible. It purely sucks. Anyway, Extreme performed only More Than Words there, were not interviewed and the host only said: These legends have their first show after tomorrow in Moscow.

Ticket sales went +2000 in one day.

I just tried it. They must have pretty good search engine optimization. Although it is pretty cool that my silly little site is listed third on the first page of search results, and I haven't even gotten anything started on there yet. [Edit: Actually my site has three seperate appearances on the first page of Google search results for "The Band Live" so maybe I have more exposure than the band's official website and I only have 2 blog entires and some photo galleries on there.]

Does anyone else here do what I do when you ask someone else about whether they have heard of Live or you tell them your favorite band is Live or that you are going to a Live concert? I always end up saying "You know, the band Live. They were big in the 90's. They had the song Lightening Crashes and I Alone."

If you just say "I am going to see Live this week", or "My favorite band is Live", or "Do you ever listen to Live" it feels like the person doesn;t know what I am talking about, unless I further explain it as "the band Live".

This has happened to me every time I mentioned LIVE in the last 15 years. Unless they were touring, or on the radio often where people generally had an idea who they were/are. Apart from family members, not many people know what I'm talking about.

And good luck with the new lot of clueless people working at your record store.

It's also tough to promote something we have not heard yet. If someone would've asked me to promote Live to my friends after SFBM I would of laughed at them. We know CCP still have it (TFG) and I like all of Shinn's past efforts, but together we really have no idea. The re-records are cool and sound great, but everyone knows those tracks already. Once the guys are ready to give us a taste of the goods then and only then will we know if it's something to get behind. I just realized that I can pretty much rank my favorite Live albums from the order in which they were released (MJ, TC, SS, TDTH, V, BOP, SFBM). I really hope that the new album screws up that list...

As far as Ellen goes, I would be okay with Live doing a song that rocks in full band mode but switching it up to an acoustic version.

It would be great if it was a song we haven't really heard acoustic. A new song or something like Freaks. That would be awesome.
